Thread regarding Texas Instruments Inc. layoffs

Elliot Group did this

Elliot is an activist vulture capitalist investment group. They buy company stock, bleed them dry and then move on like locust. They are the ones who ruined Southwest Airlines and canceled their longstanding "bags fly free" company policy.

They bought a large position of TI Stock in Spring 2024. They wrote a letter to the Board demanding that TI cut expenses and increase stock dividends. They have been pushing for a seat on the board, but have not gotten one yet. Shortly after the layoffs began and have become a quarterly occurrence.

An aggravating factor is that Chinese backed startups have poached our customers by underselling us. Demand for our biggest product lines have dropped in half, so the layoffs are becoming more intense.

Elliot group criticized TI for building too many fabs, it didnt necessarily trigger layoffs- this situation is a multifaceted and TI did its best to avoid layoffs unlike MAANG, intel, and other large companies. It has to do with the current gov't, tariffs, China building a ton of fabs, and things equilibrating from COVID. regardless, it still su-ks

I'm pretty sure the current management was doing this even without Elliot's help. There was a general lack of direction, crazy investments in capacity (spending "like a drunken sailor"), an atmosphere of ki-ling any kind of contructive discussion and generally poor people management. This is how I would sum up TI in the last 2 years:

Solid company with great products and zero people skills.

Sales to China dropping like a rock. China will sell DIE at below cost. European companies like NxP and ST Micro providing designs to Chinese foundries.

Wow, found this on a Reddit thread about Elliot Group taking a $2.5B into TI:

I once worked for a company and elliot group took a big stake. The next 2-3 years were rocky. Now that I am in my 30s, I dont give a fu-k about my job besides the paycheck, if they were to take a stake in the company I work for, I am bouncing as soon as I can.
