Thread regarding NetApp layoffs

Pure Storage is now more valuable than NetApp

For the first time, PSTG’s market cap exceeds NTAP. A competitor half our size and half our age is now worth more than us.

@cx look who was on Astra it was a who's who of executives kids. Which I see all over NetApp now. I was at an event a couple weeks ago and it felt like bring your kid to work day. I'm Director of this and this is my son/daughter who's now in charge of this.

I am recently ex NetApp now at PS. I was let go by NetApp in one of the recent waves. I can tell you, PS has their act together. They assumed we had our act together much more than we actually do, so a surprise to them. I am also told we took on some of their worse people. I would say that yes, PS is more valuable. The product has a clearer path and customers are liking it. I am sorry for my long time friends at NetApp, but pomp and greed from the Microsoft gang really did break the company.

@OP You can'treally go by market cap. Netapp generates way more net profit than pure. Like 10x

This is so sad.
Never expected Pure to pass NetApp in MC, ever.

@cs Astra was a solution that nobody needed and nobody wanted, but somehow the "leaders" justified having 100+ engineers working on it. It took them 2 years and several complete redesigns to finally realize that it was useless. Having said that, the reason why NetApp is falling behind is exactly that: clueless leaders who understand nothing about storage. Too many of them trying to pivot to Cloud, AI, , and not having a clear vision and/or plan.

Pure does not have GK running it, so, reality is their growth and value are more impressive than ours.

@OP Well deserved. NetApp keeps getting rid of good people.

Their products are priced to meet customer expectations, offering value without excess. In contrast, NetApp often misses out on opportunities due to its overly complex and expensive offerings, which can alienate price-sensitive markets.
