Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

Wisconsin Labor Law

https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/dislocatedworker/employer/tools/notice/wbcml-overview.htm

Covered employers must provide written notice 60 calendar days in advance of a business closing or mass layoff or reduction in hours.

Employers generally are covered by the WBCML law if they employ 50 or more persons in the State of Wisconsin and Make a reduction in the workforce which affects at least 25% of the workforce or 25 employees, whichever is greater or at least 500 employees.

Two or more groups of employees who are affected during a 90-day period may be considered in aggregate when determining whether the business closing or mass layoff thresholds have been met.

The entire product area of ICS could be eliminated. It is all redundant to what vendors provide already. Zero value, all waste.

@dp - Perhaps you are right. I have heard that ICS is filled with incompetent people who don’t have real work. They either blow or shine to stay employed.

@cd You would think. I worked with someone in ICS. This person was a master of their craft. But, being single, no kids, and not much of a family to speak of, got that HR surprise visit during a one on one. This was a hard decision, many things factored into it, so on, and so forth.

Doing the best job you can means nothing to NM anymore. It's not what you know, it's who you blow these days. Want proof? Check Slack. So many work hours spent playing on there.

There are ways companies can get around this and several large companies in Milwaukee have used them to hide layoffs. Part of which is announcing a layoff but staggering departure dates so they technically do not meet the WARN threshold.

If you focused on your job, you wouldn’t be worried about layoffs.

@OP so the threshold for reporting would be about about 8% of the workforcefor northwestern mutual. I doubt they'd layoff that many people.
