Thread regarding SAP layoffs

What are employees in North America supposed to do?

The layoff list was reportedly prepared starting in June and July, and it is now being referred to as "P25 Version 2." What’s concerning is that many positions in North America are being eliminated and shifted to lower-cost countries. This raises a critical question: what are employees in North America supposed to do? This feels like regional discrimination, and there's a complete lack of transparency in how these decisions are made. Previously, employees had the option to ask anonymous questions during all-hands meetings, but that feature has now been restricted. It’s hard not to wonder if there’s a hidden agenda behind these changes. Transparency and open communication are essential leaders should be willing to face tough questions without fear.
Moreover, has there ever been a consideration to reduce executive salaries many of which are quite substantial as a cost-saving measure? Even a partial reduction could potentially help avoid job cuts and reduce the overall operating cost. Doing so could also restore some of the goodwill that SAP was once known for.
Finally, assessments should be made mandatory across all roles, including for managers. Employees’ futures should not be left solely to the discretion of their managers. A fair and skills-based evaluation system is necessary to ensure accountability and equality across the board

Bumping this from @ne+1k4m2z208 for being on point.

@OP Curious... did you ask these questions when people were impacted in Q1 2024? If not, why not? Because it didn't impact you then?

Fiftees: it's the hardest because you're not sure to make it to retirement if you just wait so the plan is to take the offered package and invest it in rental property because good luck finding a job in the software in the current AI madness market.

Yeah, that's pretty much the size of it.

A single Indian can do the job of like 25 CEOs. Go to the online zoom town hall, tell everyone how excited they are about the upcoming layoffs, synergies, AI, just a word salad vomit. Indians can do that perfectly.... Because OP is correct, C-suite is the biggest drag on a company in all respects; financial, moral, sound decision making. Reason being all actions emanating from c-suite are selfish self promoting garbage that does nothing to help the company, just make the ba----ds richer.

The plan that is being implemented in major big companies and not only SAP is:

  1. relocate the production (Architects, Dev, ST..etc) to low cost centers
  2. In high cost centers only keep Marketing and Consultants

Support is no being completely wiped out by AI.

The issue is in Marketing and Consulting it's hard to compete with Software Service companies in the long run.

What to do ?

It depends on how old are you ?

Sixties: nothing just wait for retirement

Fiftees: it's the hardest because you're not sure to make it to retirement if you just wait so the plan is to take the offered package and invest it in rental property because good luck finding a job in the software in the current AI madness market.

Fourtees and younger: you have two options, find a better job elsewhere and move OR wait until offered and package, during this time up skill yourself in AI and then move a new job.

Transparency, dignity and basic respect for the employees who worked hard to bring the company where it is today it is not there, since Jan 2024 when they started this shameful strategy. The board is only looking at their own pockets and short term strategy because if they are let go because they fail, they'll leave with millions of severance. Employees are only numbers in a spreadsheet. Sad truth.
