Thread regarding Optum layoffs

New hire

Just got hired for wellmed and already hearing of layoffs, however I’ve been with Navi for years but thought wellmed would be safer.
Providers are starting to be rude to anyone under UHG too. It’s like woke are getting tired of them serving shareholders more than members

You can't mention UHG/UHC/Optum in any provider's office without seeing the eye rolls and frustrated looks. It really blows working for the devil.

@ae Well I started half a decade ago and haven't felt good vibes since six years ago.

It’s a shame that new hires are on this site. It must feel really encouraging to now know what you got yourself into.

I've been here since pre-COVID and share from my personal experience that any "good vibes" have been stripped away over time. A large number good, hardworking employees have been let go due to layoffs and other "reorganizations." Leadership doesn't want to bring attention to this, so these efforts are generally shrouded in silence. You often don't find out until you email someone and their email bounces back.

I have noticed an increased pressure from upper levels of management, especially since the CEO "incident" last December, to outperform, no matter how thinly one's department is staffed. Projects routinely come in at the last minute, and I've experienced continued expectations to drop everything else and figure out how to get stuff done. Once or twice is a fire drill. Regularly is ineptitude.

As Rapier shared in a town hall years ago, "We're gonna have to do more with less."

Have you ever noticed how the UnitedHealth Group intranet homepage tries to pump "feel good" stories from "patients" across the system? "UnitedHealth saved me. Thank goodness for this company." I ask that you think critically about who is writing these stories and why they're being pushed so strongly.

Why don't we hear from a patient who's experienced a routine denial of care at the hands of this machine? UnitedHealth Group had a 33% in-network denial rate in 2023, second only to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.

The healthcare system is broken, but "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

@OP I started fairly recently too and I don’t get good vibes from any of what’s been going on
