Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Someone needs to call out Cisco Leadership

I’ve been at Cisco for nearly two years, and it’s becoming very frustrating. Last year, CPF was cut to 0.61, and now they’ve split merits and promotions, basically halving the budget again. It feels really unfair. On top of that, whenever I bring up a raise conversation, my manager guilt-trips me into believing I haven’t done enough, completely overlooking my accomplishments. I’m seriously considering switching jobs, but I wonder- is it the same everywhere? Are most people this unsatisfied at their companies?

@OP the problem is noone does and will. The ELT knows. What they do from my experience is they LR few good people who they know can find jobs easily and may jump ship OR they LR the bottom performers who they know are not providing any value to them. They keep the middle layer who are not low performers and certainly perform their job but are not too qualified to land a "better" paying job that would allow them to jump ship. That is how they play the games. I have been in positions where I have heard and been part of discussions. That is why they hire DEIs and other minorities where they know they will never leave and they are at their disposal. They play the game and so should you and me and we all. Next year the CPF might be even lower because they know the market and do their research before deciding such a factor.

sure is unfair. Check in with your peers same title/ grade at other tech or banking. I guarantee they earn 20% more than you do here at Cisco

Cisco needs to be lean and well managed. Cisco cannot throw out money when incoming profits is not growing 20-30%

No one is quitting. Until people walk, no reason for CR to open the wallet.

CR is poorly compensated compared to other tech CEOs though, and will be hit again as the stock slumps as employees phone it in harder.

Really genius move by Caught and ELT here. Halving the promotions allows them to cut high performers before actually giving them their raises. Caught and ELT are on a whole nother level. If you all were really that upset about this you’d cause stir at GSX when they are on stage speaking. Start booing or lead an aggressive chant. I’m so glad I was paid to go away.

It is like that everywhere for raises. You have to change companies to get big raises. It will make you develop skills to get another job. There are a lot of people who are not willing to move so it allows companies to underpay them. It would be d-mb to give these people raises that will work for less. Because of that, there is limited budget for raises unless attrition gets high.

The market is tough right now, and about to get even tougher (see https://www.linkedin.com/news/story/companies-are-planning-fewer-hires-7623722/).
Cisco is a metrics driven company - so, ask your manager what criteria he/she has to warrant an increase. Better yet (I'm assuming you are having regular 1:1s -- if not, your manager is not doing what the company is expected of them), periodically ask how you rank with your peers, regardless of grade level.
In the meantime, take advantage of the professional development resources that Cisco offers. And apply your learnings as much as possible. This will make you more marketable. When comfortable, test the waters by applying for jobs elsewhere.
