Still Hearing Rumored Mandatory 8-5 Workday In Office

Again, these are just rumors, and it doesn’t make sense considering we are a global company with customers all over the world and the 8 AM to 5 PM schedule is very antiquated. Plus the FAQs tell you to work with your manager on a flexible schedule.

But….

I wouldn’t put anything past this company. It could be yet another reason to reduce headcount.

There are grumblings from people upstairs that not as many people are in the office. But they don’t seem to understand that during summer lots of families take time off for vacations and kids are just going back to school (and college). The company rewards you with vacation, but then scratches their heads when people take it and fewer people are in the office as a result.

Are you all hearing anything ?

@my Yeah, because Dell gives a single sh!t about you lol... Some people have put a quarter of their entire lives into dell, get laid off and get a capped severance package lol. Imagine being at a company for 25+ years working hard, being a good employee/top performer only to be blindsided, then find out your severance is capped at like 10 years lol... (Not me, as I've only been here 8 years) but one of my coworkers was a 25 yr employee and was let go last year like a vegas ho---r.

No. You do your job and do it well. If you want to go "above and beyond" then go for it but, you aren't likely to get rewarded for it. Maybe some insperity points though! But when raise time comes around, you'll still get under a 4% raise and no promotion.

You don't owe Dell anything. You are nothing but a badge number on a huge excel spreadsheet at the end of the day. A badge number that is easily erased with no second thought.

This is 2025 buddy. Companies dgaf about you, your well being, your family, your mental state, your life, your struggles, or your loyalty. You ARE just a number and that's literally it.

My dad worked for Motorolla for 20 years, got laid off and his severance package I sh-t you not, was for 10 years. He wasn't a big wig, a C level, an exec, but just a lowly sr manager. 10 years of salary.

Wishful thinking by the “visa employees” who have nothing in their lives but work and moving their extended families here illegally by letting tourist visas expire.

@mt

The truth hurts. You need a babysitter to ensure you're putting your time in and not robbing the company blind.

@hg

It was simply a "request"? Then no worries about anyone who declined a "request" right? And then no need for you to post, right?

Or...hear me out now.

I didn't follow the mandate "months ago" and I won't be following this.

But you guys be sure to have a grand old time in-office 🙂

If you all came into the office as requested months ago, this wouldn't be happening.
I remember everyone laughing at the guy on here that was pushing the 5x8 rhetoric. Now, you have mandatory working times due to blowing off company policy. D-mbasses.

@OP it appears it hasn’t happened, so why is it still in rumor? Act like a grown-up and doubt anything else will come of it. Do your job, get it done and try to have fun while doing it.

Ironically, I've been hearing they plan to quit monitoring badge swipes by EOY and leaving it up to each manager and/or ORG to decide what they want their directs to do.

yea... this will never happen lol. If anything, I'd bet a lot of money they scale back to 3 days in office rather than 5. I could see some orgs requiring 8-5 M-F (or whatever) - such as sales; but I know for my org at least we will never be doing 8-5 in office. I mean, they only look for 3 days/week anyways.

Managers waste more time. Do absolutely nothing. No value add whatsoever.

You may be. Make no mistake, this is not universal.

No one is actually working 8 hours in the office. Everyone knows it, but we all keep playing along.

I was in the office every day and got laid off. Others that did not come in at all and should have, were not laid off. Oh, I'm older also. I guess it doesn't really matter.

@av we know this isn't true as HR has explicitly said not to enter any tickets related to being away form the office or for exceptions and to go directly to your manager.

@av Yeah no. Dell will be left with a bunch of time clock punchers. Will not attract any talent and will most likely violate some law with this cr-p. This isn’t Wendy’s. We don’t need someone to cover our shift. They also open the door to moving salaried positions to hourly with paying OT. Once you mandate salaried people in a punch the clock mode, it opens the door for labor disputes.

Not true.

Great news, actually. If they do that, 8-5 is all they gonna get from me, not a minute more. I'll be keeping my laptop in the office locker, no late/early calls with global teams anymore either.

Can confirm this is true for some in ISG (u.s.). Expectation from exec leadership is 5 full days. ANY xceptions require HR ticket (example: car breaks down resulting in wfh from home even one day). Managers have little flexibility in working with reports. Info shared with reports over last 2 weeks .

We are back to 2-3 days a week and most of us spend 2-4 hours at the most, this includes execs. The policy is clear that your manager is the one to set expectations and there is no minimum days or hours being tracked. I've averaged 2.5 days since March and no one has said anything
