Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Is it possible to return after being laid off?

A buddy of mine got laid off and was actually told by his company to reapply for his job a few days later. I didn’t even know that was a thing. Is that a thing at Edward Jones as well? Has anybody seen or heard of it happening? It makes no sense to me, but he has no reason to lie.

Don’t forget your talents and worth! Don’t let them win! There’s way more to life than this job and this is coming from someone who envisioned retirement. Now I hope for the ISP. Give me a payday to spend my time and talent doing something I’m destined to do!

@OP who would want to return to this circus that is being run by greedy leadership (if you call it leadership). After working for this company for more than 25 years, both in the branch and in the home office, I have gone above and beyond for absolutely nothing. It doesn’t pay to be loyal to a company who no longer gives fu** about its employees… so why would you want to return? This company once was the best place to work but not anymore. I am ready for my pink slip and sad for those who will be left behind to deal with the chaos that is about to happen.

I believe any severance you receive will need to be paid back though for the time if there is overlap. For example if you received 4 weeks severance the day after your last day and you returned 2 weeks later, you’d have to pay back the remaining 2 weeks. If you came back 5 weeks later then you essentially keep severance as it’s been more than 4 weeks. I’m not in HR but that generally sounds right to me from what I read.

Yes you can apply for a new role even before your final work day as a current employee. After layoff there is nothing that prevents you from returning to Jones.
