Please looking for a real answer. I took a position and moved for it as a licensed mental health therapist in December. Since then all of the therapist quit minus a site director. We have not been getting intakes but just hired a nurse practitioner and another therapist. I don’t understand what clients they will be seeing. Yet as of now I have gotten no pay cuts or bad reviews because I keep my schedule open for 30 plus appointments I’m just not filling them because we have no new patients. If my job were to get cut or of my pay were to go down not sure how I would pay rent? Anyone know if these cuts are affecting mental health therapist or why they would hire more clients when no one has a full caseload and no new clients are coming? I don’t understand? I asked my bosses and they say there’s nothing to worry about as Optum is separated from the UNHC issues yet I come here and people are getting laid off?!?! Anyone have any advice?

Get out while you can. Optum BH social work and LPC staff are on chopping block as well as UHG and UHC clinical staff. Read older posts on here that explain how many employees have no work to do and simply jiggle a computer mouse every few minutes. At the opposite end, other staff are drowning in work and leaders are ignoring this, knowing that these people will be laid off eventually anyway.
The business and payoff will be driving the boomers into nursing homes and long term care facilities. If you want to know their next move follow the boomers! 11k+ boomers age into Medicare every single day until 2030 when boomer generation will be fully vested in Medicare. Next big business model will be the actively dying boomer population….
@OP lack of patients and no advertising is all looking that this site will close. Regardless of false hope your sups give. They can’t tell you the truth or they could be fired.
Protect yourself. Start looking and applying elsewhere. Maybe there is a virtual role that you could do until your lease is up. Better to find something now regardless.
Hearing future layoffs will be “deep” and “bloody”. Not looking good.
Yes Optum has a lot to do with thier issues. Antitrust , upcoding, risk adjustment scores, snf denials etc. your management are liars.
Wow thank you I am new and was told none of this. I was told I would have a high case load and hit RVU metrics and quarterly bonuses and brought clients with me as well. I have done my own marketing and pay for my own psychology today in hopes of growing my case load to no avail. 15-17 clients sometimes is as much as I see a week but leave my schedule open for 30 plus. They say they will market and make videos of us but that has never happened I have been told that since I started after the holidays. Also an open house was to happen months ago but feel through. I am in the state of PA so I don’t know if that is a profitable state or not. Again when I ask I am told we will not close and that they view the area and feel it can grow yet with the new hires coming aboard I don’t in what clients they will see. I had a mid/review and that went well I’m just not sure what to do or who to trust. I was told my salary would not be lowered and was told not to worry about closing but since all other therapists quit there would still only be 3 total therapists with a nurse practitioner not sure how that creates revenue. My lease is until November so if I were laid off I’d be stuck. Not sure how to proceed any help would be appreciated. Again located in PA.
Optum was having a nurse practitioner admit new patients in the Houston market all the way up til they closed Texas. Optum has to fulfill their contact with UHC until UHC says to close shop. Sorry you took a job with optum not knowing about all the uncertainty. If UHC sees your area as an area that’s not making money they will lay off. A relationship between UHC and optum is so dysfunctional
I figured that they say Optum is making them money I just don’t understand how our building is still open and we are hiring more staff but are getting no new clients despite advertising
