Let’s see if potus allows Automotive companies to go kaput and let free market economics play its role. It is easy to go on Fox and complain about bailouts, but reality bites you hard when you are in charge.

Those who support allowing China to dominate the American market with cheap, exploitative labor should consider living under the system they’re enabling."

Why should the President intervene to save the automobile industry when executives like Bill Ford and Jimmy Farley are making poor business decisions driven more by politics and emotion than by market realities? The focus should be on what consumers actually want to buy—not personal agendas.

@a4 That's so adorable that you think the Chinese are presumably the only ones spying on you/us.

Look at how much market share Ford used to have to compared to today. Why did they lose so much of it? Bottom line: inferior product and quality.

I have been saying this for years, FoMoCo and any other OEM can save itself by producing a great looking vehicle that delivers a great driving experience. The pie chart and excel people need to get out of the way and let some creativity back into the product development process. Aren't many vehicles on the road that inspire a purchase, or are able to be purchased due to cost (and I am talking about sticker and/or A-plan pricing).

@OP. First of all, the POTUS should not interfere with "the market". That means letting the best company win. What the POTUS should be doing, is making sure Americans are protected, local industries are developed, and our country is safe. Do you really care if the "profits" go to Ford or Toyota? I don't. As long as the company keeps enough positions in the States, from engineering and support to assembling and repairs, who cares. After all, I would feel more comfortable working for Toyota than for Ford, since this "American" company is bent in outsourcing our jobs.

Then, we have the BEV "threat". BEVs work in certain places, like Europe, because of the myopia of their politicians, who enacted laws favorable to the BEV disaster, and because those countries are small in size. They won't work here, not when most Americans want large trucks and SUVs.

I would let the Chinese cars to enter the American market as long as:

  • No spying. Meaning government watchdogs on their code, like they do to us.
  • Comply with all safety laws.
  • Chinese companies can be sued in America.
