Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Future of OptumInsight/Optum Financial

Curious what people think re the future of Optum Insight & Optum Financial.. do we think it’s being eyed as a sell off opportunity to someone like Oracle?

@OP Amazing we have to "find synergies" in the first place! Why we're not using OF for 100% of payments already is beyond me. When every penny counts in a dying industry, that 1% VIG on revenue matters.

same with the rest of it either UHC uses Optum for everything we can and we get rid of the pointless intersegment teams

The security team stint innovations and they make up their own sh-t. Security, privacy, legal and compliance are finger pointers with no accountability for their F$ups. Truly incompetent security he-l bent on telling others what to do but can’t come up with smooth security systems or fix their own dog food. Unfortunately other groups of PLM don’t know what they are doing and defer to security.

As with the ensh!tif!cation of all things, high deductibles = payment plans.

There's A LOT of hope that if we give away a bunch of Optum realtime stuff we pick up the spread on payments at time of care. Provider knows what Payer will pay, Patient knows what they owe, and immediately Optum Financial offers our version of CareCredit because the Employer is too cheap to provide decent coverage.

Rather than pay a higher premium every month (think of it like a 12-mo zero interest repayment), sick users do a $20k annual. The $12k+ in extra out of pocket costs, rather than costing an extra $1k/month in premiums for a year becomes $500/mo for 30 months. Just make sure you're not sick next year! It's literally not traditional insurance anymore.

Dilemma: for UHC true believer hobbyists, you want Optum. For investors looking to unlock value, you spin off Optum and let UHC wallow so the growth functions retain earnings to invest in more of these ideas faster rather than prop up the horse and buggy.

@OP Optum Financial will perform much better without redundant leadership who reduces the value. We never understood why we needed a CISO in Josh Dyba all of a sudden and now he is a Deputy CISO.

How are all these CISOs, BISOs, and all the rest of the redundant people justified?

Why would Oracle want a complex network of highly regulated payer/MCO contracts? They don’t know anything about that stuff.

Better question: What’s the future of UHG? and go from there

Honestly optum finance and optum insight drive huge margin. Would be a bad idea to spin them off.
