Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

How many jobs are you applying to each week during your search?

I’ve been sending out 20 to 30 applications, but it’s starting to feel pointless, like no one’s even seeing them. The job market is brutal right now. Is this just a matter of persistence, or is there something else I’m missing?

Just curious, how do you guys manage to put a logical resume together with all if those rotations there?

It is brutal. I used to get offers right after resume activation. Now? the same as you, OP. "100 Applicants". Before it used to be 8 max. Where did those 92+ applicants come from? Fake resumes?

@a7 I disagree.

This depends on the types of jobs you’re applying for, qualifications, etc. In my case, I have a niche technical skill set and I’m currently tenured in my field with 10 yrs exp. Basically when I apply to any job opening matching my quals, I get an interview, and an offer often follows.

For the “generalist” and mid/junior management types, yeah, good luck finding anything in this market. It’s like 2007-8 all over again, but everything is more expensive.

@OP Those are rookie numbers.

100+ applications per week is more realistic.

Anyone who’s been pushing spreadsheets around, making PPTs, and sitting in meetings for the past decade can expect a tough job market. Unfortunately, that seems to describe many of you. You can also forget about getting whatever Exxon currently pays you to do this elsewhere. Be prepared to take a pay cut.

There's a reason why benefits at exxon keep shrinking. They don't have to try as hard to keep you around since it's hard to move.

Traditional job application pretty much a write off these days. Between AI resume filtering and interview, if you are not automating your job application, your success rate is pretty much nil. I suggest tidying up your LI profile and also go the headhunter route.

I've been looking for over 1.5 years, with a total of 3 interviews. The job market is horrible.
