Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

What is Intel's long term plan?

Foundry? 18a has no external customers and 14a is unlikely to see the light of day at this rate.

CPUs? ARM is taking market share from x86 every year. Even if x86 never truly dies, we will be left with shrinking revenue quarter after quarter.

GPUs? Lmao.

Sell x86d to the Soviet Union. Vintage chipsets will make us rubles.

OP, there is a plan.

Not to be harsh, but if you needed to know what it is, then you would know.

I will say that it is not the previously plan. Not that by a long shot.

Buncha hippies and hippie-adjacents in Oregon versus an island full of people who would love nothing more than to work in a TSMC factory for 14 hours a day.

Did you really ever actually think there was a chance? Were you not watching the automobile industry in the 80s do the same exact thing?

@eg I found a gray stapler and used a red marker to color it.

Not perfect but considering that OP is seeing red all the time now, it may be ok.

It just might work!

OP is obviously still distraught that Pat took his red stapler.

Someone please, please go to the office supply cube and get him another stapler.

Preferably red but he may be ok with gray.

Long term plan - post non-stop about
“I don’t believe…”
“Ho-s bee lion”
“Oh great … troll”
“Dated Jim Carey movie quote”

Ignore the multibillion dollar negative cash flows.
Ignore the empty fabs.
Ignore the lack of any IFS customers.
Ignore the value destruction of $250B down to $89B

Just basic facts about a company doing a tailspin into irrelevance with layoffs, spending cuts and an uncompetitive roadmap.

Sad!

Craig Barrett called it. His number one concern was Intel relying on a strategy around the x86 moat. He called x86 a creosote bush, a desert plant that secretes a poisonous sap that ki-ls everything around it. PSO buffoonery on mobile and sellin XScale was like a star beginning to fuse iron. It’s a subtle change but it signals game over.

This post is like a Greatest Hits collection of all the stupidest troll posts.

I'll mention H1B and RTO since that is the only topic not covered so far.

Stupid is like a black hole, attracting a steady stream of stupid to a spot of infinitely dense stupidity.

This does seem like a hose bee lion situation.

You can tell from all the hose bee lioning going on.

Robovoting is also a clue.

I totally get Pat’s strategy now. Just pray about it, file it away, come back another day.

Prayer Warrior is the top skill in the Competencies section of my resume. It feels good to be building an in-demand skillset.

The plan has always the same: milk the cow until it starts running dry, then retire, preferably with ERP.

@av "Does NEX have products to compete?"

Maybe not, but if NEX doesn't have competitive products... Why making the head of NEX a CTO? What is the promise?

@ar does NEX have the products to compete? Not likely so let it go... Intel is still keeping a large share of the spin off. The other 2 companies have AI products that Intel doesn't.

  • Rightsize company to 40k employees. good cashflow and profits.
  • sell fabs to PE for pennies on the dollar. us gov might force nvidia, broadcom, amd, qualcomm to pitch in for a us fab
  • sell off x86 to qualcom or broadcom or maybe even PE. Great franchise to milk it dry or grow it with properly leadership.

Done.

Intel still haven't understood that the future is Arm. They're clinging onto x86, clutching those pearls, while the rest of the world sees a different future ahead. I hope they wake up in time.

The long-term future is risc-v.

Lipton's plan is to lay off all but the top 10% of engineers, through layoffs and "performance management", and ask the remaining engineers to "focus on execution", i.e. work very very hard. With costs being so low, margins will skyrocket. Profits will be back. Share price will skyrocket and managers will get huge bonuses.

X86 is analogous to Kodak film. Monopoly who's day is done. At least Kodak stock is outperforming Intel this year.
