Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

So I got my piping today, so what's next? Decisions, decisions

Okay so I kind of knew it was coming and it wasn't a big shock. I was told I was NSI and I needed to choose an option. My clueless supervisor did not know anything about the pds system. I am NRE and the sup told me if I wanted to try the pip or else. I informed the clueless dummy that I could not be piped but only counseled. While in our meeting the genius looked up the goto/mlrp site and started reading. My glorious leader then told me that I would be under the something counseling plan. They asked again if I wanted to do it. I said what else would I do quit and leave. I was then informed that if I did not complete the pcp I would then be placed on pip and then be gone. I told the d-mb a-s well then why not just place me on pip instead. I had contacted the useless HR a hole and learned that during NRE I was not eligible for pip only counseling. I would be protected for two more years. I also learned that I did not have to attend or participate in the counselling.
The supervisor is a fresh one that has only been a supervisor for one year. I know exxon inside and out as I have been here for almost 30 years. I have seen old friends go through this s heet before. I believe the supervisor attended a presentation on pds and doesn't know anything. They were not aware of NRE, RE and retirement ages. I informed the genius why exxon has the NRE program and the lawsuits that brought about the NRE program.
I am totally pi---d that I am being managed by an uninformed incompotent d-mb a-s. So now which do I choose play nice or be a pr--k for the next two years. I am not getting a raise in the two years because of my ranking so f u ck it. I loved the rehearsed speech about" this is meant to make you a better employee and we value your experience and skills". I also got " and I am here for you". and I am your champion. The real meaning is exxon wants me out so they can hire a younger employee or 3 contractors to replace me.
As a said in the beginning I am ready to leave at RE and am financially independent. I planned for this years ago and paid every thing off. I can live on my wife's salary and have a job lined up. I have a small business and a few million in my 401k. So beware and prepare like I did. So f uk this rotten as company and its corrupt ranking system. I wish my story was rare and not typical but it is not.

If performance ranking was based on performance, all the people earning 1/8 of an HC10 salary would get NSI.

EM factors in that 1/8 salary such that if the 1/8 salary engineer is 1/2 as good as an HC10 engineer, the 1/8 guy gets ranked above the HC10 guy twice as good as him.

Extrapolate this unspoken performance equation into the future and you see it will be the root cause of a catastrophe.

Its an unfair system. The supervisors are told to distribute the assessments. The only way to stay safe is to sr mgmt protection.

Just cruise the next couple of years and don’t let anything bother you. Show up ….and get paid :)

NRE is just a scam to make you feel good about it when they force you out at 55. Don’t let this stop you from suing for age discrimination when it happens.

I was told I am too sarcastic in meetings. I replied that there's no such thing as being too sarcastic.

I was piped a few days ago and have made my decision to retire. I got tired of the inept supervisor making stupid decisions. I make the sup look bad by pointing out a better way to do something. The engineers loved it and we implemented it but the supervisor got their feelings hurt. I was told I undermined their authority and was insubordinate. I was also told I was not a team player and was a loner. I brought up all the improvements I made to the projects but was told the way I pushed it through was wrong. My knowledgeable feedback was excellent but the supervisor just used their input to override the good stuff. Oh well exxon use to value what I could do years ago but not anymore. I am RE and well prepared. I stayed because I liked to fix problems and improve things but I guess I am not able to that at exxon anymore. My decision is easy but it pi---s me off that some young arrogant supervisor has driven me out. I got the same "we value your contributions and experience and we want you to improve bullshi t. The truth is they want me to bow to the managements feet and ki ss a ss. They also want me out as I am paid more than the other employees. I do not like the fact that supervisors hold so much power over our rankings. We goodbye exxon it has both been fun and he-l at the same time.

My clueless supervisor did not know anything about the pds system.

Your clueless supervisor does know. He/She has been trained by H/R on how to respond to communicating NSI/PIP. He/She will plead ignorance (i.e. lie) to keep their job as a manager.

Do your homework before signing the release form to receive three months severance.

Act so nice and respectful during you improvement plan that your supervisor feels ashamed of putting you in that situation.

If I was in your shoes, I'd probably take the pcp and take a couple more years salary to get you to RE. This will bump up your pension payout. I would also take as much time as you're allowed to make the decision so your not reacting to the sting of the message. Good luck.

Just relax and enjoy the 401k. Let the wife support you (the way it should be!).

Anyways, no more ranking stress for you.

Enjoy life to the fullest, and for sure, you will find something more relaxing.

Probably PIPed you to protect a non-NRE…since you only have to go through the motions.

Damn. Sorry it happened to you. Not sure what’s worse, getting the news… or getting the news from someone who was probably an infant - if they’d even been born yet - when you began your career.

It’s a terrible system that just breeds discontent and vitriol. Wouldn’t think that’s the kind of motivation management would want for their employees, but they do not care. You’re right: they do want you gone and your story is not unique.

It’s shameless and anyone who plays a part in executing it - are accessories.
