Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Let's address the elephant in the room

Most of us over 50 have trouble getting offers because of ageism. Companies claim they want experience, then reject "overqualified" candidates again and again. My laid-off peers are: 1) removing early career dates 2) creating "consulting" personas 3) targeting smaller firms where wisdom matters 4) emphasizing tech fluency. It's exhausting reinventing yourself at this stage, but sadly, it's become necessary. Ageism is all around us.

@OP OP, the first one you mentioned is common sense and a No brainer.

I will add to your list, exclude graduation dates from college / university on Resumes/CVs.

@a7 first of all no one should own a Tesla. Second of all there’s no Tesla priced at $200K. Lucid Air Sapphire? Maybe but not used.

@a5

Not a whiner, just realist. Sorry for not sharing the US corporate rat race mentality :D But feel free to su-k di-k and work 20 hours a day to be able to pay off your 200k Tesla and 1mil mortgage for the next 30 years :D What a great life...for the shareholders of banks like Citi.

True. On the other hand, younger people like me can say that older people are holding on to the bone for too long, making promotions and salary increases very difficult for those below them who are at an earlier stage in their careers.

Reality is corporate world changed dramatically in the past 40y - more people entering the job market at the bottom (more grads + immigration) + wage stagnation at mid and high level, which led to many old people staying in their current roles in their 60s, some in their 70s + corporate greed (some CEOs cannot quit)...
