Nothing Happened. Coal picked up and now that shop is more short handed than before. They are trying to get crafts people to fight with eachother but most of them know better but a few d-mb ones engauge. Don't let them win but bnsf is more on the employees side than the unions are. They are trying to do peaceful/nicest thing right now. You'll hear about it.

Sh-t, try having 20+ (and being the bottom guy) and working with a bunch of guys that have 12 or less. They all act like they are gods gift to the railroad. Think they have seen and done something.

@17m They may retain their seniority at their home shop but if they move they go to the bottom of the roster. There’s no better feeling than having 10yrs of service and the guy above you barely has two.

Barstow sees an ace in the shop and the entire shift takes FMLA.

Thats really good news. Its crazy to think they have a 60 day notice. I don't think so... they meet you at the front door, escort you to you to get your stuff and give you the next steps to what happens next. If they let you work knowing the shop will shut down, people steal tools, Get Injuries, etc. You will know that day and you better be prepared for the next step.

They are not hiring a foreman there... I've looked every time someone brings it up. The only thing they are hiring in alliance is a traveling mechanic which works on track equipment. Which is a Machinist job which one of you need to go to now.

UP just hired a firm to make a offer on CSX or NS. Here look https://www.investopedia.com/csx-norfolk-southern-stocks-gain-on-report-union-pacific-is-looking-for-a-deal-11774060

BNSF is doing big changes, they always fallow suit with UP. Read the Union Pacific layoff page, they are shutting down shops and wanting to make a coast to coast railroad. Just look and see who wants the Lease the Orin when it comes out. Writings on the wall, your union can't stop it, you can't either. Plan for the next step.

@OP might be alliance texas they were talking about not Nebraska, truth be told imf is pretty much running alliance now outside of switch crews, and Saginaw has been closed like 4 times in 10 years. So it might not be a stretch that someone got their alliances mixed up, especially considering that the red river has been hiring ax men in terminals and mechanical for the 3 years, one only has to look at the dou--e canoe superintendent running Fort Worth tye and the fuqhead gf3 in temple over the red river division.

Just heard from our superintendent that when the Alliance shop shuts down, the workers will be able to keep their seniority and move it to other shops. Hope you all enjoy California

Alliance is a train wreck (no pun intended at all) Ran into the ground. Thats what happens when you go and hide and not work for your pay but youre first in line to complain about unfair treatment. Get a real job and then maybe youll see how lucky youve been all these years with a cake job. You couldn't pay me enough to ever be in Alliance. Management there is a joke too- lay people off and then force overtime. Now your paying more for that one person than if you just kept the other guys on. No implementing cost saving procedures or anything. No keeping people accountable who dont do their job. Have favorites. Its such a joke. Should be called the MMTC Railway (Most Mismanaged Train Company)

@mp I’m sure if it happens, B.B. will address it in the briefing Monday morning. Any machinist's know anything? Did you guys ask your union reps? They had a post like this last year too so I wouldn’t believe it until it happens.

At least a 60 day notice is required. What’s the point in spreading such a stupid rumor?

Here is the bad

  • exempts have been moving out of there more lately
  • Laborers are taking over jobs (inspections, building maintenance now, pit dutys, etc)
  • You have main line getting car storage. AutoRacks are going back onto the sandhills currently with grain trains. Black Hills and butte have cars also. Other than main car storage is $3.50-$7 a day while main line car storage is $177-$275 a day.
  • UP shut down two shops just this year, BNSF hired UP guys and they fallow suit. or they Fallow suit with us.
  • KF is going to an american airlines board? What does that mean?
  • New Ceo at B.H.
  • Coal loop/ Orin line is up for lease and or Buy. UP/Bnsf share cost currently. Are they going to split it 3 ways? UP can't take the whole thing over because thats a monopoly.
  • They had two town hall meetings in Gillette and Edgemont. What happened with that?
  • They have no conductor/engineer jobs on the system.
  • They have contractors everywhere around Alliance fixing cars. 2 alliance 1 bridgeport 1 sidney.

Heres the good

  • Asst. shop supt. left there recently but why..
  • You still need fueling on the coal loop, they can't go to Lincoln back to Lincoln.
  • Coal sets jumped by a lot this week.
  • One of the newest shops on the system.
  • Grain, Q's, H's, Coal run on our line and we are right in the middle of the system. Central location for fixing equipment.

What I think is going on... Its a scare move for bnsf to get conductors to go one man crew, directional traffic and a pay cut. Directional traffic cuts out a lot of track maintenance, Helpers on crawford, etc. They will leave this up to the employees to make them the bad guy. They are going to give you one option which is to sc--w Everyone on the Powder river, where only conductors or engineers the benefit. The other option is to sc--w all trainmen and go one man crew, pay cuts, etc and most other people on the Powder River will have a job.

I personally think its a Rumor, You can't plan your life around that. At the same time, you can't have that "It can't happen to us" attitude on the railroad because no one is safe. Its its not the same place as it once was when we got hired on.

With BHE and the waivers BNSF is trying to get through. Sets won't matter. BHE says its good.....run em. No need for inspection. The fact of the matter is weather it's in September or a year from now. Alliance NE will become a non essential point. Advice.. get out while you can now.

Ok cool. (As I walk into the alliance mechanical shop for the 16th straight day of overtime) yeah man sounds legit. (As they are still trying to hire foreman for alliance)

@OP I find this hard to believe considering their coal sets are up. Not to mention, why would the superintendent tell the machinist union and no one else 😂

Highly unlikely. Set in service out of alliance are going up at a large pace. Return to service locomotives and hauling coal like crazy. Over exaggerated rumor if you ask me
