This does seem like one of those special situations where it is good to remind everyone,

@wp Learn to live with less than 40% of your pay and become financially independent within 10 years.

People who do this find they are still saving money when they are on SSI.

It's all about choosing to not be a mindless consumer.

I guess everyone is fixed on how leaving with a package will sc--w up your life financially. But if you have lived within your means and simultaneously saved and remained fiscally responsible then there really is no issue. All this to say that I'm happy I never bought a $3k purse or a Porche and that I paid off my home. That part is a bit of luck though. For my younger colleagues things are much more difficult and that su-ks.

@mf I think if you have a 401k loan and fail to make payments it is considered a distribution, and adds to your Adjusted Gross Income.

With no payroll deduction, a person would have to remember to pay the loan every two weeks by a certain date, so it would be challenging to keep up with that.

Take the package then sell your car to pay for the taxes, then take the bus to the Food Bank and have lunch.

@kg You may have walked away with the package but the IRS is going to do that too.

Wait till you see the check. You will think it is some kind of error.

@a9 Thanks! Walked away with a sweet package. Sitting on my ar-e all day away from my desk is a nice change of pace. 😂

@e2 Everyone gets all excited about the package, till they realize that they are not in the 35% tax bracket.

For most, it will last about the 3 to 6 months that it takes to get any job, and that includes having to move to a larger city to take that new job.

Then they find they can't afford to buy or rent.

@e3 Ok, maybe you shouldn't have taken the package, but others may wish you did.

@OP If you're a complete a--hole and have no compassion for others, sure.

Sure, you took the package, but then lost most of it to taxes.

@an If you had taken the package then, you'd be thanking me now!

OP- STHU. Obviously people stayed employed for our own reasons... (some of us were not eligible to take the package at all), so your comments are NOT helpful. Right now, everyone is on edge waiting to see if we still have a job or not. Have some respect. Best of luck to everyone. This has been a really difficult day.

@af Most of the posts and comments are either from the d-mbest fab techs or various id--ts who don't have anything to do with Intel.

So many obvious errors, lies and misstatements.

@a4 likely half the comments are from people that don’t even work here. I’ve debunked so many comments claiming they sabotaged or know some insider information. Half the time they don’t even know basic internal terminology or the actual acronyms we use. Also they have no concept of how teams operate.

It’s safe to assume the vast majority of the negative comments are actual trolls.

@a9 your welcome! When I left it was a viable company still generating nearly $80 billion in revenue. You ran it in the ground after I left.

@a3 Coming soon to a layoff near you.

Low performance or being caught hanging out on the internet all shift will get you out with no package, and maybe no unemployment depending on the state.

Intel loves to see what workers do with their time at work.

@OP I get that many people on here are mad at Intel (and rightly so). What I don't get is why so many feel the need to come on here to belittle, insult, and tease Intel employees. What are you getting out of it? Playing "I told you so" because people prefer the paycheck to an uncertain job market seems needlessly cruel.
