Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

ISG re-organization coming soon with more layoffs on all levels

Last night, the night shift crew got hit with a sudden meeting and bad news: they’re getting laid off starting August 18th. They can either switch to day shift or start hunting for a new job.

The excuse is that Dell’s restructuring its organization and wants tech support to “follow the sun” with a global call center model. But it’s clear they’re just using that to justify the cuts as they go full-on global.

Word is, ISG’s getting a major overhaul. All the current teams—RTLV, RTMS, MOD, you name it—are probably getting scrapped, replaced by just two groups: hardware and software. The real plan, though, seems to be ditching ISG entirely and moving to AI by 2026. That’s all we’ve got for now.

Start looking for a new gig ASAP.

Dell is shifting most of its operations to India. This include the following:

  • US L3 team gone
  • US L2 team a few employees gone as well
  • no 'follow the sun' policy
  • all backend jobs will be gone as well.
  • All they need is 2 continents to cover 24 hours - EMEA and ASIA with 2 shifts overlapping on this continent
  • Dell strategy is only focused on 'Cost reduction' without taking into account the regional partitions of their assets by simply shifting workforce to one major global hub.

This is the strategy of the redwine that got cut by water with dilution of service and a total disdain of regional market reputation. This is not good for the employees, and this is a very short term strategy.

honestly, with all the lay offs going on here at dell, i’ve just been taking as many classes as I can that dell will pay for to grab certifications for free while looking for work elsewhere. I know i’ll eventually get laid off, but i’ll be here until that happens because im not letting them get rid of me for free, even if the package is sh-t for lay offs, it’s still money coming outa dells pocket and I am intent on costing them as much as I can when I go. I also still have a couple customers that I do genuinely like and want to take care of while i’m around.

This is what I don't get about this site. People say management is trying to make us miserable to drive us out the door, but others say that the truth would cause panic and a mass exodus. But isn't that what they want? Why not just tell us the truth and whittle the herd down to 50K or whatever the latest goal happens to be? Why play these games? Sometimes I think there IS NO PLAN and different groups are doing different things without any coordination.

Many haven't grasped Dell's true objectives, and they're in for a surprise. I'm frustrated that, as employees, we're either being deceived by leadership or they're unaware of their own goals. There's a clear lack of transparency, causing widespread confusion. Dell must be fully open about their plans, but if the truth were revealed, it could spark widespread panic and a mass exodus. People do not want to hear what is going to happen.

@b7 you cannot outsource Fed. It's required to be a US citizen with a federal background check to do fed support.

God help Dell if they try because the might of the US government's legal team will smash them.

As an Ex employee who is now a dissatisfied customer. I can tell you there is no AI involved with support especially out of India. My whole team thinks Dell su-ks and I’m the only one who has ever worked at Dell.

The RR and OKC operations, along with India-based teams handling PSS, PS, and PSP contracts, are seeing all cases redirected to an outsourced team in Bangalore, India, during the night shift, known as QL-Premium. It's likely that daytime cases in the US will follow the same path. We're told AI is driving this change, but that's not the full story—AI generates the cases, which are then handled by live agents in India, effectively replacing our team.

PSOne and Federal contracts remain unaffected for now, but changes to those contracts could bring similar outsourcing in the future.

I'm certain Dell is leveraging AI while outsourcing jobs overseas. Many employees are unaware of the risks, mistakenly believing their positions will remain secure in the next three months. The future of ISG as we know it is set to transform into a new entity. Frankly, it wouldn't be surprising if they completely shut down the RR and OKC units.

I’m not sure either, but it’s definitely the main objective. The Agentic AI course makes it clear that the ultimate goal is to replace everyone with AI at the heart of the service.

I’m not sure how you replace hardware with AI.
