Thread regarding American Electric Power Co. Inc. layoffs

Where do you even look for another job?

I’ve been at this job for over five years, and it feels like I’m just spinning my wheels. I’ve never felt so unappreciated and overworked. I’ve been trying for months to find something else, and nothing’s come through. At this point, I’d take almost anything just to be able to quit. If this is about the job market and not just my bad luck, then we’re all sc--wed.

@OP try the state unemployment office. Typically companies will still post jobs with the state. In most cases, it's a requirement. They'll do an interview with you, come up with a job number or MSO if you were in the military and when a job matches that number they'll ask if you want to do an interview.

If you want to move to a different state, works the same way. The best part, it's all free. The state acts as a head hunter but doesn't ask for a cut if they find you a job.

Why would you quit when chances are you'll be laid of within a year and can collect severance? I'd never do them the favor of walking out on my own.

@a1+1jy7dm3w5 Precisely this. There's opportunities, of course, but if you don't want to move then you're out of luck.

There are lots of jobs out there in the power industry but you would likely have to move.
