i was laid off from hyatt along with nearly all of the remaining us-based phone customer service agents... about 300 folks wre let go in 1 week, and only about 35 of us are left, all working remotely. they also cut 18 managers (OUCH) and most of the US chat team, leaving just 36 chat agents. we were given 24 hours notice and offered severance packages that were $800 or less...

there are no more physical u.s. call centers anymore – everything that remains is remote. our roles were outsourced to countries like costa rica, the philippines, and el salvador. it’s frustrating, especially considering how long some of us were with the company and how suddenly this all happened. what stings even more is that hyatt has been posting record revenue lately...

It really feels like they’re restructuring long-term and we were just seen as costs to cut. There’s talk of AI replacing jobs like ours, and honestly, it seems like that’s exactly where this is going. the whole thing feels cold, calculated, and like a huge slap in the face. so many people gave years of service and got nothing in return...

the way this was handled showed zero care or accountability... i don’t even know what’s next – everything changed in a day... this is the reality of working for corporate america now... we deserved so much better!!!!

- I went from joining a Zoom call with the director of my team, to being forced to turn on my camera, to being told I was laid off effective literally immediately, to then having an HR rep say “you’re going to need to take notes now,” to me just saying, “I’m sure all of this info is going to be in an email you’ll be sending to my personal address, so please can I get off this call now?”
- They literally shoved me out the door, sat there staring at me as I was crying and humiliated and confused. Then the realization hit me — how am I going to pay for my mortgage? Health insurance? Etc. All while the HR rep and the temporary director of my team sat there in silence.
- A 5-minute Zoom to lay us off with literally no advance warning or foreshadowing. They literally said your Hyatt email is going to deactivate in about an hour.
- It’s incredibly annoying to be constantly told how much Hyatt cares, then to be faced with this. At the summit meetings a few months ago we were assured our positions were safe and that we would be working with the foreign call centers. They would work the hours that we were closed.
- However, checking my emails on the way out, I noticed one mentioning Teleperformance and plans to open up a team in El Salvador on November 18th. Seems like that worked out fine for them - they sent out the emails and meeting invites by the end of the day to fire us.
- During my shift I got a notice of an “important meeting” the next day (my day off) at 9:00 am and was told not to share this info. That’s when the panic set in.
The meeting was so unprofessional. People couldn’t get in or didn’t even know they were scheduled. One person called me on Teams to find out what was going on. It was just them blandly telling us “how hard this is for them” and that we no longer had jobs. I’m sorry, but the alligator tears are just too much.
I- don’t know about y’all, but every day I had at least one person thank me for being a native English speaker or for not being AI / usually in less kind words. I get that moving call centers may benefit shareholders, but it’s not in the best interest of the guests.
- I feel misled about the security of my job. At an in-person summit, my fears were directly addressed and I was told not to worry. I received a promotion and consistently had fantastic scores. One guest said “her kindness almost made me cry.” I thought I was working for a company that would care enough to at least fire me with compassion, instead of a bungled Teams meeting.

@15z survivors' guilt is a real thing, during both rounds of furloughs I was unscathed but I felt incredibly guilty and probably cried more than my furloughed teammates.

@168 of course it does. They cut a large number in November and now another large number. Now your calls go outside the US. The new leadership (term used loosely) hates the US employees, so of course they’re thrown in the dumpster.

@hk I was out on extended leave and told to come to the meeting with no details. I did not lose my job and I do not kiss anything. The people who were left had no say or knowledge prior to the same time you found out. This is the third time that I have "survived" and it is painful, stressful, and most, including me, are left with overwhelming guilt. I am so sorry for all those who were let go and I HATE what they are doing.

BS has his own skeletons, not surprised he just sat there. For anyone who was spared, get out there and start looking now. They're going to do this again, probably before the holidays.

Hyatt has been taken over by these people without any conscience or souls. Notice we hadn't seen Mark except for a glimpse here and there, and these emails crowing about all the successes (built on our backs) and "exciting" updates. Also notice these financial traps they have been sending us (daily pay, we just got something from SoFi offering loans). Any time they used the word "exciting" meant it was going to be the exact opposite.

The way they did this is exactly how they are. We were the people who built their loyalty program base to what it is today. We were the people who helped their brand grow. And they threw everyone out in the trash, only to replace them with people who answer the phone and cannot understand what the need is, because they're cheaper.

That was awful. Such a slap in the face to everyone. Seemed there was no rhyme or reason for any of it. Let go so many tenured and hard working people. If you were one of the “lucky” ones who were spared… I’m happy for you, but I’d keep an eye open for other opportunities. This Hernandez guy seems he-l bent on gutting omaro.

Still processing everything but im beyond angry. Not so much about losing my job, but angry because I was stupid enough to think Hyatt actually cared. They made it clear they don’t while sitting under their jerseys and smirking on broken audio.
Sickening. So upset for everyone.
Hope they don’t try calling back when their new offshore team fails. No way.

It was a layoff of 282 people. Soulless video where BS was a bump on the log. A useless pos with no added value with a smirk on his face. The corporate dude Anderson Hernandez spewing a broken audio and dropped like a rock at the end with a black screen and a few minutes before we hit the email to jump on a mgr run termination call where they read the scrip never looking into the camera. Heartless

Hernandez is a pos. This Hyatt is not the same company I started with 20 years ago. That was completely cold and not one ounce of compassion. Hope the guests enjoy talking with AI and offshore cs. Great job Hyatt!! Way to run yourself into the ground.

@hk that one sat there like a bump on a log and didn’t even say anything. Hernandez did all the talking and like the other person said, it looked like he was smirking or trying not to laugh. It was really disrespectful and showed us that we had no value to them at all. Just a body that cost money, replace it with another body that’s cheaper. A sh---y bunch of people and they seem to be enjoying gutting the company.

My wife was with them for 13 years and let go like it was nothing. The guy that fired her- BS is his initials- which is ironic considering the amount he dishes out- is the absolute worst. They kept people who kissed a-s and laid off hard working people.

I was invited to the meeting. Very sad day. I was one of the few who did not get laid off. I have been there over 9 years and I'm a Chat supervisor. The way it was handled has shook my faith in my company. Not very ' caring' .

A result of all the BPO partners they have been contracting with. The workforce will now be BPO dominant. I no longer believe in the "care" of Hyatt and keep my resume ready to go.
