The contractor I work for assigned to Intel already announced job cuts for about 2/3 of the team. I'm guessing Intel managers are cutting contractors hard hoping it saves their own jobs when Intel cuts their own managers, but it might not even be enough to save their own management positions. How many other contractors were already notified?

We have a couple of contractors in our group.
If they get cut, we will be sc--wed - or more specifically, I will since their work will fall on me.

Cost cutting. We are going to do everything possible to pinch pennies.

@aq It is a big company with a lot of contractors already. Some badge flipping for certain roles will happen. Functions already contracted out will be scaled back.
Substantial badge flipping is expected for entire groups in the near future.
This will affect both fabs and products.
The trend is strongly towards contracting, and part of the reason is the improved ability to scale the labor force to meet demand.
Fewer benefits for the workers involved but pay is similar, and if they manage their finances then having some time off here and there is not all bad either.
It is a reflection that toooooo many managers were managing managers of contractors

There is talk that the socond round of layoffs will be end of October, but there will be so few of us left that it might be everyone getting layoff notices at that time.
We've had to cut about 60% of our team over the last 1.5 years. We just got extended through December, but no idea what to expect after that...
