Just got off the phone with a head-hunter. He asked for my salary and I warned him that I’m pretty well compensated at Apache. After hearing the number he gave a slight chuckle, then commented “I thought it would be higher” , “people in your position generally make …” and gave me a number that was was ~20% higher.
Now maybe he was just edging me on, but now that I think about it most of my raises for the last 5 years have been below inflation.
Maybe the grass is greener elsewhere?

Went from 120k at apache to 300k+.less responsibilities and less political bs now amd loving it
It's not about the money. It is about the value you are allowed to create for the company. The word allowed is the key. JJC and his crew love doing the projects they deem appropriate and then focus all of the money and manpower there. Look at San Antonio, the Delaware Basin Fiasco and miss that EOG found, expanding waterfloods and not ruining them by horizontal drilling in them. We need a good corporate raider to come buy into Apache and rid it of the JJC Brotherhood he has surrounded himself with and sell the company to XOM who can develop the assets offshore South America more quickly and generate value to the stockholder! Where will the next T. Boone Pickens come from?
@ag 190 now
@OP the grass is much greener. I was at apa for 10+ years, and recently resigned. I got a 20% increase at my new place without even negotiating. Get out of that awful mismanaged joke of a place.
How much do make annually?
I keep an eye on Apache with friends still there, looked up my numbers for reference.
Apache earnings:
2013 - 90
2014 - 130
2015 - 110
2016 - 120
2017 - 140
2018 - 140
2019 - 150
After Apache earnings:
2020 - 220
2021 - 200
2022 - 230
2023 - 250
2024 - 260
Numbers rounded slightly.
@a3
Yeah, I trust out management and HR way more.
Head Hunters are like used car salesman. You can't trust either one.
