Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Seeking Optum Employees Affected by Onshore-to-Offshore Shifts – Demotions/RIFs & Legal Interest

Has anyone else at Optum been impacted by the apparent strategy to shift roles offshore by pressuring onshore employees into either:

Accepting a forced grade-level demotion, or

Facing a RIF (involuntary separation)?

I’ve observed this pattern disproportionately affecting tenured onshore teams, often with little justification beyond vague "performance" or "span of work" claims—despite strong prior reviews.

Questions:

Anyone else experience this? (Especially if you were given a downgrade/RIF ultimatum after years of high ratings.)

Legal professionals: Is there potential for collective action (age/race discrimination, bad faith practices)?

DM or reply if you’ve seen similar tactics—trying to gauge scope and interest in next steps.

Yes this is true in OT because they have a goal to meet. 100x wants the % of onshore to offshore mix at 30/70…and they keep lowering the onshore %.

Yes…this happened to my department. I worked for home and community in preservice for MA plans (Navi health). I worked there for 5 years. I became pregnant with twins and came back briefly from maternity leave and left the company bc there were lots of things I did not agree with that they were doing and also I needed a better schedule/more flexibility due to 3 kids under 5….anyway since that time my manager was let go and 2 people on my team-did seem that weak performers were let go. Also, my senior manager had been let go during my maternity leave. I don’t feel she was a weak performer and she was pretty smart but of course high level positions are always more likely to go. I don’t know what legal action would be taken-i can’t think of any they are allowed to lay off people. The only thing would be WARN act violations which I have read they have had issues with in the past…of course I personally left voluntarily so it wouldn’t apply to me. I am happy I am no longer there. At one time Navi was a great company with great people and a great job.

Every other company in the space is shipping PHI offshore as well optum is not the only one. Personally I could care less about my info what are they going to do with it nothing. The stuff that will hurt you like financial information the cow has been out of the barn for decades and no fixing that

Switching to offshore staff isn’t necessarily where the problem lies from a legal standpoint. Sending member PHI offshore is where the liability exists. And that’s happening.

@OP there have been waves of layoff since 2023. Corporate leadership cleanup , constant chasing unrealistic goal. This is eroding employee trust. I feel American corporate are beholden to shareholders and profits, then on core fundamentals of what their company is about. If only people stick to what’s best for their core operations , it will reflect on company value and share price.

I’m impacted! Despite of having high ratings new leadership given the ultimatum. It’s horrible culture

Well it is the way of Corporate America. The best thing to do is continue to build your marketable skills and industry knowledge.

American workers will always be one up on the Three Rs = RESPONSIVENESS, RELATABILITY and RELIABILITY if nothing else.
