Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

We were told no more promotion for excellence of work but only for change of responsibility. But what happened to the 8500 promoted this year?

I got 1:1 performance review. Been a VP for 10 years, Was told no promotion because of the Citi promotion is only for change of work scope. But my colleague in different team who has been doing the same routine work for 5 years are promoted in seat. Confused, angry and feel cheated

Post ID: @OP+1jkck1cyw If the OP's story is true, he/she let $hittibank win. You've been Re-leveled for 10 years even though you get 1:1 Ratings.

Every situation is a relationship and you've chosen to remain in an abusive, parasitic relationship for 10 years. In a way, the OP is equally to blame for staying in his role. This relationship is Not a violent domestic abusive one where leaving the relationship could be fatal. Even if it was, the victim MUST STILL Leave the relationship to save their life and sanity.

Divorce, leaving or quitting is always an option. Employees must plot their Exit Strategy, plan and then execute their quitting/leaving the relationship.

Every day for 10 years and counting you have or had the choice to either transfer to a different $hittibank Department at a higher level and salary, or quit $hittibank. Everyone should have an Investment Horizon or maximum tenure target.

If you've been getting 1s/2s Ratings for 3, 5, 10 years and STILL have Not been promoted or given the appropriate salary level, the ONUS is ON the Employee to leave the abusive and parasitic relationship. Anyone who doesn't do this is a Svcker.

If your story is true, then you are letting Citi win. Citi is living in your head rent free. The best revenge is living well. That does not mean you have to be wealthy but just live with Citi in the rear view mirror. The fact that you come on here to vent, poke at Citi with stick and chime in from time to time, says that they’ve really gotten to you so much that they are living in your head rent free. Its time to evict Citi.

Well, here is my story and I’ve told it before. I was at the citi over 20 plus years. I was a VP for over 10 years. I ended up moving out of state and was a telecommuter which my managers had no problem with at the time. Anyway, my colleague who was doing my same exact job for the same amount of time or even a little less time than me and she got promoted to SVP. So naturally, I spoke to my manager and questioned why I didn’t get one. every single year I always got ones and twos and never any threes and always volunteered for special projects I didn’t know if it was because I moved or not but the girl that got promoted to SVP lived in the New York area, but she was also a telecommuter Basically the call got heated and she just said well if you do more work and special projects it would help I told her I worked on numerous special projects. Her response was that I worked with other regions on this specific project and I didn’t do it alone. I said so that makes a difference? She gave me a lot of cr-p and no real encouragement for me to think I would get promoted at any time. Since I saved enough money, I didn’t care if they laid me off. During this meeting, I told her I’m not gonna fall for her carrot and stick. She told me that I have other options and I told her I’d be happy if she laid me off and I’m not just leaving. After this, I just did my job and that was it. Finally, I was laid off three years later, and I couldn’t be happier. I had a big smile on my face on my Zoom call when they laid me off. I didn’t make tons of money as a VP, but I made sure to save as much as I could for all the years I was at citi. I retired young. I know I’ve told the story on here before. I just come on here once in a while to see what’s going on at Citigroup. Everyone should save as much money as they can as you never know when they’re gonna lay you off. Plus, it feels great not to be beholden to any company and be financially independent. I know a lot of you probably can’t do that, but I was able to as I don’t have any children and live within my means.

I have been a VP for 20 years, gave up trying to get SVP a long time ago. SVP's are the first to go when staff cuts happen. I just keep a low profile and do my job, nothing more, and get 2/3 - 3/3 every year with a 1-4% bump in pay. Its enough to keep me here and my family out of debt. 5 more years (Citi willing) and I'm off to retirement. If I got purged from Citi it would su-k, but it would not be the end of the world. My skill set is such that I could land a new job within 6 months, probably for 20-30% less with a lot less free time, but I would make it to retirement age either way.

A company will promote you only if they are afraid of losing you - unfortunately, that has always been the case. I have seen this numerous times - you have to somehow convince your managers that you are indispensable.

Find a new job and tell your boss, that sometimes helps.
