Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Massive Ego or Mentality?

I just want to ask, is talking down to people a thing with Citi's environment or a cultural thing? Or is it their ego?

Been here for some time now. But the general tone and expectation from middle managers is that they genuinely believe they're superior and their tone is just disrespectful. (ie. treat you like they're your master).

Not sure if it's culturally related or superiority complex.
But if I see a person talk to anyone this one, my respect for them goes down the drain real fast.
If you talk to me that way, I'm going to give you the most politically correct, office crafted FU in the nicest way possible.

If you treat people like sh-t, and they stay. All you have left is people who are working there unwillingly, or people who have low skill ceiling.
Then again, giving the lowest amount of effor possible is a common sentiment on this forum.

God bless, and see you guys on the outside!

Put all the bickering aside and do it for Jane, do it for the company. Once you do that, all worries will just melt away.

Citi is bad in that respect - I have been in other top financial institutions, but here things are on another level - the problem is Citi has been promoting inadequate / low-level / low self-esteem people to managerial roles for decades and this is how they ended up the way they are - bailed out, no innovation, everybody is scared to say that something is wrong. I think some top managers realized that hence the reorg. But it will not be enough. Once you let the sh---y people to break in and take over it is very difficult to eradicate the disease.

C15 seems to be the penultimate rank of archetypal a-hole. Lampshade position where some are even just ICs. Big on ideas, short on understanding basic foundations of fintech. Know of at least 3 who are loathesome.

enter stage left, the child with his rhetoric.
I believe the goal for him is to hijack all threads with his rantings so much in fact that no one would bother with this board anymore. So no more audience for him once that happens. I wonder if he realizes that?

He just read about the Dunning-Kruger Effect theory. Its new to him and makes him sound smart, so true to form he wedges it in to every conversation. This will go on for quite a while, you’ll see. Post will be hijacked with it left and right.

The newbies don’t have the relevant experience and Citi worked really hard at running off what experienced staff it had.

As a manager the help has declined too which causes us to manage differently. Plus the newbies coming in really do not have relevant experience so we take the nest of the worst if that makes sense

Yes, it's rampant at Citi. A few reasons. Most good leaders are gone. Those that empower and respect and help to grow their teams are gone. Run off, or pursued other jobs that were more rewarding. What you have left is poor managers who couldn't make it anywhere else, don't know how awful they are, or are just biding their time. They get pressure. Pressure mounts from above and manifests itself into bad behavior. Being a poor manager to start with, add pressure and the behavior becomes toxic. Bullying, do as I say, fear, berating, are all tools used when effective tools don't exist. If all you have to manage deliverables is bullying and condescension, then that's what comes out.

Post ID: @OP+1jk6c01bs OP We're assuming this abusive, bullying and sanctimonious behaviour is mostly coming from $hittybank's favourite demographic, because it does and this is true.

As stated many times now, Citi would prefer to have an employee who is desperate and really needs this job. The more desperate you are, the more of a constant berating or brow beating you’ll put up with as they look over their shoulder at their peers with a smirk on their face with a “see how whipped I’ve got this one”.

There is a reason for this attitude in people in middle management and if you see closely people who spent more than 10 year in citi they are struggling with ego mentality, they assume nothing can stop their behaviour, it gives them some sort of ego stratification rather solution to problems or innovations. Just challenge them in front their team, no one is boss to any one here, you are doing job they are giving money.
