Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Lowering employee morale

What a mess we are in? Employees are becoming less enthusiastic, engaged, and positive about their work, potentially due to factors like loss of job, unclear expectations from their managers and leaders. Jane and Tim need to bring back the enthusiasm and positivity, otherwise many employees will leave.

Unfortunately Citi is counting on your anxiety on two front and it really works to their advantage.

  1. ) You get stressed and leave. This self attrition keeps them from paying out severance.
  2. ) If you stay, then all the better. They can give you the old do all this extra extra work on this much shorter deadline, remember, you need this job so you have to step up and rise to the challenge. Work throughout the night and over the weekend if you have too, just get it done yesterday.

For #2, yes, you’ll do it as you need your job and they know that. It will be used as leverage against you. As if that’s not bad enough, if your health (example: diabetes) does suffer, then you really really need the job (insurance). Now the pressure really gets applied.

AND if all that was not bad enough, wait until they push for the ole tried and true stress multiplier….RTO 5 days per week. See how your stress is then. The RTO office just compounds to the you have less money now. Gas, car wear and tear, dry cleaning, lunch, traffic, child care, rush back home and remote back in to work when you get home from traffic so you can make sure to put in your 10 hours.

Post ID: @OP+1jj7dchkz To the OP: What do you mean "Lowering" employee "morale" ??? It was already extremely Low since at least 2020. It's now Negative Infinity. "morale" can Not be lower than Negative Infinity.

I don't think some of you are getting the message. Citi does not want or care about your happiness. Contrary, they want you to leave. Employees are one of the largest expenses and cutting expenses lifts the stock. The ELT cares about themselves and shareholders. That's it. This company stopped caring about it's employees years ago. We are on a trajectory to raise the stock and we are all cattle. Cattle to be micromanaged, overworked, left with uncertainly, controlled by fear and managed out if you are too expensive to lay off. That's it. That's what's going on. And what awesome contributions do we make to offset this? Nothing. We fix things from decades of mis management because the OCC comes in and fines us and says we have to. That's our valuable contributions. It's not to our customers, since they like us so much we have an F BBB rating. Our jobs are to address OCC findings and try and stop further fines. Don't try to make it more than it is. And to make matters worse, all banks are doing this. Because it's all a race to raise stocks and stave off commercial real estate collapse. Job postings in the market are mostly ghost jobs that don't exist. This is not doom and gloom folks, this is reality.

addition to this, personal life is suffering since the job and interview prep/study takes so much time plus the commute to office (One way is 1+ hours). I have a few family members saying that if i continue this way, i can get permanent illnesses (diabetes). I have no idea how people with family and responsibilties do it. I guess if you are in a management position, it is a different story. I am in the tech field for reference

Im border line facing health issues from the stress and uncertienty at work. No sleep/ long hours/ sitting alone in office with no team mates since team is in other regions of the world, and tasks that go beyond my skillsets, its breaking me. Most days I just occupy the seat as I am too burned out to even read a simple email. Boss still squeezing employees. I dont get the direction since its the same methods as before the layoffs, just double time efforts. Its like a ship moving with no clear direction. Make products that will benefit the market, etc.

I have been applying outside for a few weeks with lots of rejections. Even with the effort of trying to leave, I dont see myself leaving anytime soon. At least 3-6 months while tolerating my situation while job hunting. I am riding a fine line balancing my health, surviving this job and studying for interviews while brushing away rejection.

I am becoming numb to it all that it is truly affecting my regular life outside of work. Days where i would let go of my self care, auto destroying myself. Sleep in the same unmade bed as i dont have enough bandwidth, go to the office with no interaction other than zoom.
