So many great employees have adopted the "I'll do the bare minimum until I see what will happen" approach. I don't think that's the best way to go but to each their own. I certainly appreciate having less competition to worry about since I know Broadcom will take into account their handling of the situation.

lol you think they take each of the 40k individual employees attitude and tangible outcomes into consideration when it comes to layoffs ?
Let’s put it that way, if you and your department doesn’t make direct impact on revenue then you are likely in the running of being laid off.
If you are ask yourself, does your bosses bosses boss know you by name and knows what you do ? No ? Well then.
Even then. You are a number and are in the way of doubling EBITDA within three years.
You are on the chopping block until alloy are not.
If you need no competition to shine, you have bigger problems that Broadcom acquisition.
I work in Tanzu.. I don't expect they'll keep us. Shockingly, some of my coworkers disagree with me and think I'm being an alarmist.
Call me what you want but I'm glad I didn't drink the k8 Kool aid. They have been saying, "no one can understand our product because it's so complex" since I joined back in May.
Broadcom will not “take into account their handling of the situation”. A spreadsheet will be made by the private equity trained Broadcom takeover folks based on revenue generation metrics in as cold an calculated way as you can imagine.
VMware VPs will get very little if any say as to who goes and who stays. A large number of managers and ICs will be cut no matter their performance.
Given the total lack of honesty demonstrated by the C-suite, not to mention their conflict of employee interest with CIC amounts, doing the bare minimum is pretty much right in line with what VMware should receive.
Time is much better spent to put effort into whatever tasks one thinks is necessary to find a new job. If the company wants more than the bare minimum, have the leaders spread that CIC money around to everyone.
One exception, if I see Mr. Magoo wearing an Armani suit, I’ll work my a-s off for a week.
I doubt Broadcom will care if you are the overachiever or not. It is going to come down to margin and cost. If you are in a BU that is not that profitable it won't matter how much extra work you do. If you are in an area that is considered redundant it won't matter. I am part of a BU that makes quite a bit of money compared to our cost but I am still not taking anything for granted
