Got a meeting today on my vacation day off at 4pm and was told I’m being let go. Yup, they stooped to that level.

Employees (even Agency) they fired were also customers. Throw in the recalls, they deserve to lose the customers and then some. It is not the firing, it is the age discrimination.
@egx+1imuZhnO A lot of people actually answer their phones in vacation for work related matters. Sometimes it is just a question, sometimes it is OT, but we try to be "team players". Remember that if we let the company "burn to the ground", we would not have a job to get back after vacation.
BTW, sticking the head in the sand has never being my preference. I'd prefer knowing in the spot that I no longer have a job, that finding it out 1-2 weeks down the road. At least now you can start your job search (if you hadn't before with all the rumors), limit your expenses on vacation, or extend the vacation for more days since you don't have obligations anymore.

Who answers their phone on a day off? I'll file this one under "things that will never happen to me" and move on.
Never, ever, answer the phone on your day off. If they want to terminate you, make them do it on their time, not yours.
I just got home Saturday from a week “away” - note I didn’t say off since I was logging in and working during the week. Didn’t matter still got fired today.
What's funny is the same old tired line of divide and conquer.
1: GM: I got fired today, tell everyone you know not to buy GM products.
- Ford: I got fired today, tell everyone you know not to buy Ford products.
- FCA/Stellantis: I got fired today, tell everyone you know not to buy their products.
Everyone outside just shrugs their shoulders.
I too was on vacation and got the call today.
Different employer but I was called in on a sick day to get fired.

Wow. They are a real low life company. I would never forget it, and tell your family to never buy one of their hot vehicles. Would they have called you at a hospital?
