In this day and age, when you could take your skills to any other company (and industry) and be welcomed with open arms, you make the conscious decision to stay here every day. Why? It was never easier to leave, so why aren't you doing something about it? Something concrete, other than just complaining?

@OP Why are you on here complaining about others complaining?
I’m still at UP because I love to stand up and cry during courage to care meetings.
Railroad retirement and too many years in to start over. That’s the only reason. I’m trapped.
The job isn't bad but it's all the mind games railroads play. Like never feeling like your job is secure. That sh-t takes its toll. Even with 10 years seniority the word layoff is always right there. Yes we get paid good. Best thing to do is live within your means. Do you need a F350 King Ranch, NO. But look around. How do you think they scared 70 percent into some bu-----t vaccine. Most my coworkers live paycheck to paycheck keeping up with the jones. Keep bills to a minimum, life's alot better .

Hard work builds character!
@OP Most of the skills learned at UP are non-transferable.
Putting on your resume that you “cleared form B’s” and “approved track & time” means almost nothing anywhere other than at a major freight railroad. UP didn’t even start using modern email applications until fairly recently.
As other posters pointed out, nobody aside from UP will pay you what UP does with nothing but a HS diploma (if that), so they’re effectively stuck where they are - hence why they’re constantly complaining.
Because Im last of the SP guys around and only have several months to go ahead of the SP RGI anshultz people and trying to get the Pension and benefits for me and my family.
I just hope it doesn't get any worse for any you left here. Ive been awake since 230 am here and DOL waiting to get home.
The weather suckss in LASU.
God bless you all elsewhere
Long hours, but easy work. I make between 5000 and 7000 each half as a locomotive engineer. I don’t have any college, so I don’t know where I can go to make this type of money and work basically unsupervised. I don’t like the decisions upper management has made in the direction of the company, but otherwise I am satisfied with my job.
Because I truly enjoy the work and the people I work with. And in my delusional mind, I guess I'm hoping it somehow gets better and I have a job in 10 years.
Have a cdl so if I dont, I guess I'll go back to that. Can get a job in about 10 minutes with one of those. Till then, jts a pretty damn easy job for easy money
Have a job in rural America. Work by myself. paychecks are good and don’t bounce. House is payed for.
Because I make $150K as a locomotive engineer, good insurance, great retirement with only a GED and no college. That's why I work here.
