Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Would anybody stay?

If you were offered a decent severance package, not even anything spectacular but enough to create a safety net between jobs, would you take it? I think people are so fed up with all the cr-p here that everybody would jump at the opportunity. He-l, people are leaving on their own even without severance, so I think something like that would create an unmatched exodus.

@OP The only thing taking an offer of this kind would do is tip off your boss and your coworkers that you’re looking to quit your job. We know this because it’s happened before.

An offer to take a severance package and quit went around to managers back in 2018. Nobody who said they would take it got it, because UP is UP. The thread might be still be up if you want to read what they said about it. Something like 50% wanted out even then. It’s probably close to 100% now.

Save your vacation and quit with no notice. They pay out your unused vacation in your final check. That’s your severance package.

Why should anyone stay? This company has shown many times over that they absolutely DO NOT care for their employees. Anyone with at least one brain cell can see how out of touch the upper management is. I never got a severance, nor did I want it. I simply wanted to get away from the company fast. I saw what was coming when they decided on PSR. Look at how well the company is doing now. They just had two major derailments in the northern region, and another one today in the southwest area. The UP has lost a lot of good talent, and probably won't get them back. If you wait long enough, the CEO will get online and brag about how well the company is doing. He'll also say how proud he is of the men and woman of the UP. Yet he never mentions the morale and many other issues, or even tries to fix them. What the CEO really needs to do now start fixing the issues he knows the company has. Stop getting online and saying the company is in great shape, when it's clearly not. Start listening to these yearly surveys that some people do, and act on them. Do a complete shakeup of the management, and actually hire people that know what the he-l they're doing. Most importantly, focus on keeping what good people they have left, and drop this PSR BS!!!

well the last time they reached out to management asking if anybody wanted just that, damn near every single one volunteered for it even some superintendents. it won't be an unmatched exodus because UP only would use it the way they did last time which was to let a few people take early retirement and not backfill their positions. Everyone else? thanks for volunteering, but get back to work and by the way we've cancelled everyone's vacations until the numbers get fixed.
