Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Pay Cuts - Perspective

Hilarious to see everyone freaking out and complaining on here about their pay cuts. I'm coming here from another operator that just went through several rounds of layoffs, the most recent of which cut pretty deep.

I think everyone in that position would have wished their employer had been nice enough to keep people on with a pay cut instead of casting them out with no income and no employment prospects during an economic and healthcare crisis. Retained employees are saying the same thing, having witnessed the alternative. and knowing they could be next...just saying.

Oxy did pay cuts because there isn't enough staff to complete the work as it is now! They also don't want to invoke the COC from the Anadarko acquisition.

Im a contractor in the GOM and have been for almost 7 years. APC was great to work for. And now I look forward to working with OXY. This is very volatile times for everyone and it could get worse. Hopefully not, but the negativity sure doesn't help. Negativity spreads like wild fire. All we can do is roll with the punches, get back up, and keep smiling. It doesnt matter who you work for, there will always be ups and downs. We all have to band together and we will get thru this one way or another. It may even require us to pick up side work on our days off to get through it. As men, its our job to do what it takes to make it, not cry about it. Keep doing our jobs and do them to the best of our ability.

Pay cut vs unemployment, take your pick. All those that complain - you're fired - get out! Oxy doesnt want you.

Jeeezus! I find it f—ing incredible some of the posts here. “...the door is wide open...”. It’s the attitude that keeps companies like OXY doing EXACTLY what they’ve done for 100 years. You guys are stuck in the 1970’s and the whole world has moved on. Same people that generalize and marginalize others for a “attaboy”. Well, even NOW?!!? Longevity deterioted by ego, Retirements gone, paychecks cut, ..and the doors wide open? Companies change when people stand up come together and point out the injustices and unfair dealings done. Get on Glassdoor everyone post your feedback/reviews, do an interview with newspapers, write a blog, get this out there. You are all in a f—ing echo chamber and NO ONE CAN HEAR YOU BUT YOURSELVES. For gods sakes one of you has to have a f—ing spine! You want OXY to be a company worth working for them you have to let the general public know what that should look like so they can hold this sh– company accountable for something..for once at least.

@OP+14aPM2VU The issue here is that moves like this drag the average down. Instead of shedding the waste, you underpay your A players. A-level players leave as soon as they can, which drops the average employee. Oxy has and will not fire F caliber employees, and dragging them along just means the next time around you're in worse shape.

@zhj+14aPM2VU "Last i checked people cant see into the future " - except everyone save for VH and the EC saw the APC acquisition as stupid. What we can see is the present, and being an id–t in the present usually leads to being an id–t in the future.

It's hard to accept a paycut with so much fluff, middle management, and bureaucracy across the org.

Right - to the poster below, imagine people struggling to figure out how to support their families with zero income, they’d be happy to have to “make due” with 30% less.

And don’t think your company is the only one that’s been incompetently managed, mine was so poorly managed they had to decimate their workforce and throw hundreds of people out on the street.

The door is wide open im sure for anyone thats unhappy. We all took a pay cut ok yes its difficult but at the end of the day take action redo your budget and live with it or take the plunge and leave and good luck out in the job market.
Last i checked people cant see into the future if anyone could then we probably wouldn’t be in this mess but dammed if you do dammed if you don’t .
Not trying to be an a– or a bootlicker its just the honest truth it not easy but can be done

I will happily raise my hand to be laid off so that the L-Oxy employees could keep their pay. L-APCer

What you find hilarious and view as “freaking out” is people struggling to figure out how they will be able to support their families with 30% less income. The perspective of something is better than nothing is great and all, but both Oxy and APC have a right to be p-ss-d off. Incompetence pisses me off in general even when it doesn’t cost me money.

OXY didn’t do pay cuts out of the kindness of their hearts. They did pay cuts because they didn’t want to invoke the COC from the Anadarko acquisition. That’s it... amen!
