Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Do You Agree?

Ok. Now that mass layoffs are long gone and the company still s—s at ecommerce and can't sell it's way out of a squirkle shaped bag, is it safe to assume that the leadership a) is the problem, and b) should have been purged instead of all the good people that got hosed

I mean, F, how may times does a company need to go through the same motions before it realizes it's insane!

Post ID: @OP+13M0BXhE, yes I agree with both your points, I would also reiterate that Amazon did not make Staples can its' sales force, stock stores with over priced cheesy goods or take on billions of dollars in debt

"Amazon is not k–ling Staples, new technology and going paperless is."

I would add that Staples is k–ling Staples.

As a former customer of Staples, I can honestly say that they are over priced for their technology products. Sure they have printer paper, pens and folders but their laptops are priced $100-$400 higher than other stores in the area. It is true that they have a large number of printers available in the store but let's face it, printing is not where it is at anymore. I was in charge of scanning all of the hard copy docs at work into the computer archives before the whole manufacturing plant went paperless. Amazon is not k–ling Staples, new technology and going paperless is.

The mistake SP made and the leadership was too quickly flipping accounts and territories on the commercial side. They crushed long standing relationships and devalued the hard work of those that built these accounts over many years. They assumed that anyone could just take over an account that was thriving without disrupting the business. This was a destructive decision made by bean counters who have zero understanding of the SBA business. It has been puzzling observing some of the best corporate sales talent struggling through the Sycamore guided change. I think better days are ahead but it is negligent on leadership that they executed a poor plan where the most celebrated product innovation was a square dry erase marker. Get with the 2020’s and stop investing in pens and markers. Go after Amazon with confidence and stop folding to them like a pansy.

Amazon is destroying Staples, WB Mason and independent dealers nationwide. It’s all going to be over soon. Amazon will be the last one standing.
