Thread regarding State Street Corp. layoffs

This much overwork is not okay

I notice that the management's "main job" is not only to terribly overwork us, but also to convince us that it is not much work at all. In other words, we are bad employees.
How do you deal with this much stress?

Agree 100%, The low level mgrs have no power when it comes to raises and bonuses.
They too are victims of Senior mgmt which calls all the shots on how the company is to be run.

Remember for every worker they can layoff, replace with a H1B worker, the raises and bonuses of the Senior mgmt go up.

I am a manager at ss. It’s not true that all managers are heartless and want to overwork people. The truth is that we have very little power. Every.single.year I fight for my people to get raises and increases in their bonus only to be told what they are getting and to deliver the news. That power lies with SVP’s and above. I used to think the same of my manager until I became one myself. It’s incredibly discouraging. We managers are just the pawns used to deliver bad news from above. Oh and I absolutely hate the new bell curve cr-p. Another power taken away. You can’t even recognize good work. It’s now hunger games. I’m literally told what ratings to give regardless of true performance.

Everyday I hate this place more and more. Tired of good news Wednesday when they are fully planning cuts. Dishonest.

Oh and don’t expect a raise every year and if you complain you’ll be scolded like a child for having unrealistic expectations.

If you are overworked and get gray hair, the managers won't care. If you get sick from overwork, the manager won't care. The managers will only care for their year end bonus.

I haven’t found the answer. I’ve been applying for new positions like crazy but no luck yet. I’m starting to think the only way out is to quit. This job is so heart-wrenchingly bad for the soul. The horrible habits this company instills will haunt you like a ghost. Keep exercising and finding outlets outside of work is my best suggestion.

One favorite method of Mgmt to have people quit is the famous, double and triple their workload. After a few months sometimes 1 to 2 years. The workers suffer from mental and physical stress of being overwork. The person quits and the company is thrilled they don't have to pay severance.

Now they can replace the person with a contract worker or h1b worker.

Quit or find another job at State Street.

You are a su---r if you stay in a job that makes you feel that way.
