The SED Division (Symantec) is continuing to lay off engineers this quarter, following similar layoffs last quarter. What is the reason for this trend?

SED should lay off all the “software engineers” in non-technical roles who lack an understanding of security and are consistently wasting engineering resources. They are often called x-x manager or x-x project leader.
If you were Carbon Black and did not take the layoff / severance, you were a bloody fool.
one backend solution for all SED products is a real culprit and never really think out of box. all SED products UIs are really su. $c. $ k. s. as an internal cus never using anything else than sep, altiris.
The only people who benefit insanely at Broadcom are Directors and above. It's a game of musical chairs until each new vesting. If lower on the food chain, get on your leader's good side and he will take care of you until his position is threatened.
Thank you @Bzxw+1rN1nTj6. Spot on. Excellent insight.
Hock Tan is a very very smart operator & one of the best capital allocator in tech (look at his record in M&A, dividends & stock performance) however he has failed miserably in taking care of SED. Here is why IMHO:
- SED is a collection of old technologies with large sticky customers but with almost no growth.
- SED execs are masters in PPT/XLS po-n, presentations, slides, RCAs, planning, buzz words, politics and putting lipstick on a pig.
- Their MO is: we know X did not work because of Z, we need to do X+Y-W, this will take a few quarters or a year or two then rinse and repeat.
- All these execs are doing is buying time and having their millions in RSUs vest. They are towards the end of their careers and want to own as many AVGO stocks as possible. The dividend alone will sustain their retirement lifestyle. They have been milking shareholders massively.
- Hock needs to go back to basics: ignore ALL their BS, look at the numbers such as revenue per HC, profit per HC and most importantly cost per HC, ROI per HC etc, fire everybody director and above (no exceptions, they are the RC of the problems and will scare Hock & customers before going down, in every way possible for obvious reasons, it sounds scary at first but it’s doable and the top heavy purge is right & best thing to do, talk to Elon), give teams purely unambiguous financial targets (no mumbo jumbo), bring in a few new execs who understand finance & ROI if remaining managers are confused. Finally if this doesn’t work, divest SED.
🤞🤞
can confirm its happening due to the fact the numbers are not on track for the yearly forecast
Done being milked by Hock. Have you not paid attention to how he does business? VMware is the new cow, and in a couple years there will be another one as those customers bail as well.
As you know, Symantec technology is bleeding to death. It has been on this path for many years. Large customers in commercial and government are leaving. It's no surprise that Palo Alto, Zscaler, Microsoft, etc. are replacing them.
SED Senior management are in serious trouble. Confusion and chaos. They don't have a clear vision for the future. Carbon Black and VMWare will not help improve the situation.
By the way, SED BU management pulled Symantec sales reps and professional services back into the BU line of management last summer. They convinced HT that they wanted to be responsible for their own destiny. Well, they got their wish. They will continue to manage quarter by quarter at this point. They will examine the business on a quarter basis and will make resources adjustments. SED will continue to layoff people if the it does not achieve the sales target promised to HT. HT is watching very closely.
They are hiring very expensive cybersecurity sales specialists and other former Symantec employees to drive new business. It's just not going to happen.
Reason?
Shütup and get back to work
After many years under the same leadership, Symantec's Enterprise Division could benefit from new leaders who bring fresh ideas to address current and future challenges.
SED has been searching for a Cybersecurity Sales Specialist in the United States since January. Failure to achieve successful product sales may result in more layoffs or the division will be sold.
Most likely due to big paying clients leaving us and they need to adjust the spending.
Is this related to the Carbon Black folks coming in and overlaps ? What teams are affected ?
A lot of their roles have been replaced by AI copilot.
