Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Seating Survey

This is a survey for people who work at the General Motors Technical Center in Warren.

  1. What business function do you work in?
  2. What is the approximate percentage of seats to the size of your group? For example, 50 people with 25 seats would be 50% seats.
  3. Did your group get relocated recently, and if so, did you lose seats?
  4. Do you believe that management is intentionally trying to make your job difficult and frustrating to provoke you to quit?
  5. What is your sense of overall moral in your group from a scale of 1-5, with 1 being miserable and 5 being happy and engaged?
  6. Have things slowed down for you at work?

Thank you! I hope we can all get a better sense of what is going on if we know what is going on throughout the organization.

It's apparent that the gas is coming from your mouth.

Seating surveys are particularly dangerous. Once they determine your physical footprint it is simple to determine how much O2 you consume, as well as CO2 you off-gas.

Then it is a simple calculation for management to determine that GM can more easily cut both costs and CO2 emissions more efficiently by eliminating your job than by selling the crummy EV cars (like the Bolt) that no one wants. 😯😩

These are the d-mbest types of questions along with people asking anything regarding having to return to the office. I especially love how we waste half of the QA session in town halls talking about it when the SLT is clueless anyways.

Don’t have a seat? Go sit somewhere else, sorry you can’t sit next to your buddy and gossip about the next VSP.

Can’t come to work because of personal reasons, newsflash, take your day off or sick day to run your errands. What do people think we did before COVID? If you can’t manage your schedule with two WFH days still you have issues.

What business function do you work in?

I work in engineering. Particularly energy systems.

What is the approximate percentage of seats to the size of your group?

As far as I can tell there are enough seats for everyone but the conference rooms and storage space are a little scarce.

Did your group get relocated recently, and if so, did you lose seats?

See above and we did get moved a couple times. From Pontiac to Warren in 2019 to the 3rd floor of Cole Building. Then from 3rd to 1st floor beginning of this year. Then just recently to the Estes building 3rd floor.

Do you believe that management is intentionally trying to make your job difficult and frustrating to provoke you to quit?

No I don’t think so. I think my manager is very good to work with, is supportive to the best of his abilities and very accommodating. He has rules he has to play by but imo he’s trying to make sure our jobs are all justified with solid projects.

What is your sense of overall moral in your group from a scale of 1-5, with 1 being miserable and 5 being happy and engaged?

Imo about a 4. Not perfect but pretty good overall.

Have things slowed down for you at work?

Yes some over the last few months but I do think my boss is looking to shuffle things so we are all busy.
