Thread regarding Western Digital Corp. layoffs

More layoffs are inevitable

The only question is when. I'm thinking we'll find out in the next month or two.

Re: Japan needs to continue to hire NCGs and that budget will come from somewhere

JK's genius strategy - these kids are so green they add no value - no relationships. just grunt workers for the good ole boy club. JK really believes this cr-p - getting rid of old and $$$ employees. Not a secret. He forgets he is no spring chicken

@9idj+1uhccvRJ learning from the simulation, then size the businesses

Today WD and STX have the same market cap due to mediocre management. How can the Flash business survive if it doesn’t rightsize further? There will be layoffs with selective hiring in specific areas

running pre-split simulation will determine timing of what's needed

Why spin off in 2024? The more DG delays, the more he earns. Layoff anyone who suggests it's not that hard to split.

@hzt+1uhccvRJ. Koixia is going public, so the probability of a "merger" is down

I am hearing the opposite from management. I am in flash and I am hearing of new budget just to hire new engineers.

Not in the next month or two. If anything they will be hiring. After spin off done? Absolutely. Once they figure things out, they will be ready to stream line the business and trim down to prepare for Kioxia merger. My bet is late 2025, early 2026.

I wouldn't want to be part of flash spinout. I expect there will be 33% layoff after the new company forms with Kioxia/private equity. Easier to layoff in the US than in Japan or South Korea. DG will retire and get golden parachute in 2025. Good luck to all.
