Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

Are any of the older employees even trying anymore?

From what I see most have given up. They don't even care if everybody can see they're barely doing anything - and I can't blame them.

Mattel has made it clear that everybody over 50 (maybe even people in their late 40s) has no future here. So why try if you know your days here are numbered anyhow?

I was laid off at 55. I got a decent severance and now I am taking advantage of Unemployment extension and California Training Benefits. I'm not making a sh-- ton of money, but I am getting by and having a lot of fun. I don't want to go back to work, but I'm sure I will have to in 2020. If anyone has a suggestion on how I can make money and not work please share. lol

No loyalty at Mattel. They are encouraging employee over 50 to retired.

Management took no responsibility for wrong decision. After acquiring so many toys companies, most of the brands totally disappear. What’s the point of buying those companies?

I think they’re just trying to make this place look like it’s more “happening”, like a Silicon Valley start up full of young millennials. Instead of it being some over-the-hill, tired old toy company that’s sinking fast in an era where babies are now being weaned on iPads and other tablets for their play time.

I’m not going to resort to immature name calling here like others, but the commenter three entries down should take a walk in my shoes.

I was let go from Mattel in my mid 50’s and ended up having to finally take a job at a Home Depot. Mattel is not the only company that age discriminates, I can definitely tell you that from my job search history after I was forced out. I always thought I’d be able to retire from there in my early 60’s when my 401K would be fatter and I could take my social security early if I so chose.

Just remember it can, and most likely now will, happen to you...just a matter of time. So don’t be so harsh on others. There’s no need to resort to your type of verbal abuse here.

I'm 87 and I try really hard. I come to work everyday and push the buttons on my computer. I make things dammit. Maybe I can't do 100 pushups anymore, maybe my teeth fell out while I was chewing on the corn, maybe I smell like Ben-G--. So what? I can still push a button or two. You people are just sad. It's the old school employees that are keeping things moving forward. They show up on time, get their work done and don't complain about everything. The younger set would like to think they're getting it done, but they need to show up first and accomplice something other then complaints and pointing fingers.
