Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

ESD = Disarray

DG is the weakest leader NM has seen in their sudo IT space. His incompetence speaks to why CM was not able to obtain the CEO position, (include DV’s hire). Budgets have been slashed moral is at a low tied to eNPS but still finds money to fly his USAA army all over the country. As a T4 I am not able to obtain funding nor attend any industry conferences because of budget.

He has no depth, only a face, smile, and airline reward miles. Raise up against this hack in your employee survey!!!!! It is no secret DW and DG dislike each other start the movement to get a true leader in to guide ESD.

Oh we clammed for the snake man again.

First of all not a sme. If you meant a small mid level experience, I would agree. I feel sme’s have good knowledge, they make meaningful contribution in refinement meeting.
I heard DG is on a mission to clean the house. Whenever DG has to clean his old esd house, he runs short of cleaning supplies.

KB is out. I wonder what the driver of that move was. Kickbacks from Infy?

@Sxle+1rDgUiYd From what I'm aware, they are not going to be laying off people in tech for a while. Some other company divisions, like L&D and CD, did have some reductions this month.

What I've been told is that as the Simplify to Accelerate efforts continue and as more software assets become deprecated, people associated with those deprecated assets will be reviewed and may be let go if they are deemed no longer necessary.

KB is now working on getting the manager a PL1 programming manual from Infy Lex, the manager c-m SSE will have a seamless learning experience.

KB was reluctant to promote a SSE to a manager. But the d-mb AD in the team wanted to have a more d-mb manager, that way the AD felt he could appear less d-mb in comparison. So he chose the d-mb SSE and promoted him as manager. Already the SSE guy had poor coding skills. He is capable of only editing 2 fields ( from ‘0’ to ‘1’) in 2 database tables for the past 15 year$$$$$ Another contribution of this pathetic SSE + manager guy is that he wakes up at 5am daily to give KT to the offshore team, also claims he works for 12 hours daily. Whatever he codes ends up in prod. bug.
KB sir can you please give some coding training to this manager??????

@7skd+1rDgUiYd Knowing NM, they probably wouldn't unless there's some huge PR thing thrown into the deal, like making NM a Featured Place to Work. We don't even pay for Best Places to Work anymore because of the embarrassing results.

@2sps+1rDgUiYd - I’ve noticed you post here a lot by the same pattern of claiming your team has abysmal morale and you all have some inside joke about some leader. The joke never turns out to be so funny and so it’s abundantly that it’s just you carrying this torch…

Recent examples of your unfunny jokes that no team would ever continually laugh at:

  • obscure back to the future “you’re fired” bit
  • digital engine joke about some leader driving away from NM (c’mon, lots of potential wasted here)

Everyone sees you’re just a disgruntled guy with horrible dad humor. Please stop pretending your team is laughing with you and not at you.

My problems with DG are simple. Dude is incapable of holding a meeting without there being tech issues. Absolutely embarrassing that he has yet to have a SINGLE all hands meeting where the audio works. Second issue I have with him is, as other people have stated, the constant remote work whole the rest of us have to be on campus.

I stopped reading after the first sentence of this post. You are clearly very young in your career and also clearly not here five years ago for ER.

I actually think ESD is fine, and having worked at several different companies with several different senior leaders, trust me when I say you really don’t know how bad things can be.

Hearing the same from the CoS that other areas of DG’s teams are over budget. Teams that are at budget must cut as well as DG’s headcount is to high. Called out USAA-1 and other Miss-2 who currently do not have a budget process. We all must sacrifice to make USAA successful opps Northwestern Mutual.

There is another rumor that DG’s org is going back into tech and flattening out aka removing some senior leadership for additional cost savings.

leadership is really setting TG up for success. cutting people who know how to do things, keeping worthless people who don’t know how nm makes money, and putting blowing up the budget on rebuilding a perfectly fine building. And don’t forget the never ending massive cost to maintain a NYC office that nobody goes to.

at least the ge hack is ready with a dashboard to steer us through this. rather, he’s got McKinsey in his contact list to call to bail him out.

when the next cso project hits and nm has nobody left that knows how to enable our sales force to sell our products, will the ge hack have the answer? what about db? dg? uncle fester? no way. Theyll all be gone by then. surely ag will have her id--tic ai stuff working by then. no, she, too, will have moved on.

layoffs will continue until all that is left is a power bi dashboard showing 0 employees. the dashboard will work to obscure the source of data and rely on odd and poorly defined assumptions that the maintainers will refuse to explain. sometimes for unexplained reasons they will continue to use data from the previous year. management by dashboard w/ no understanding of what is being reflected is very key to the current priorities. accuracy will remain a secondary priority.

how they can even figure out how many roles to remove this time around is a mystery as sweet sweet valentine still doesn't have the new esd budget tracking rolled out. i assume the delayed, but highly celebrated at time of hire, relocation to milwaukee 'when school starts' must still be taking up a lot of her time.

as to the desire to focus on contractors. sorry dave, you told us to prioritize them in the october/november round. there aren't any left. as to targeting more senior employees, that is a given. you have refused to approve lower level hires for several months now. there are no other options. as to product, what happened to all that hype about actually having product write proper features and stories for the dev teams? there was to be so much more shared accountability with them so developers could actually focus on delivering finished product.

it was all a dream...

We have been instructed to gather another round of cuts. Specifically product and ‘senior’ engineering talent to lower the budget. Dialog has been that contractors should go first but DG wants more contractors for additional flexibility as the budgets go down. Targeting end of April first of May is what we have been instructed, not sure if it’s all of esd or just pockets.

Of course KB handed work to Infy - he worked for them. I wouldn’t be surprised if somewhere in his ESD org there are leaders getting kickbacks. Considering the lack of business ethics at Infy, it’s probable.

KB then hired his Infy buddies to work at NM. Then they did the same. Thus his fiefdom in ESD looks nothing like any other org at NM. His org is now stacked with ex Infy employees and their friends who have no clue what they’re even supposed to be doing.

The senior director level in KB’s is amazingly awful with some so out of touch it’s frightening. They shouldn’t manage a car wash let alone multi million dollar budgets. They hired tons of P4s who are busy doing nothing except collecting their paycheck. Most of course are men that look and act like KB. His survey scores are just awful. Most have had it.

Who is DW?

Last LPS project was a blunder and this company learnt nothing. Leaders like KB working hand in glove with GDP (Infosys) and mindlessly offshoring work and DG is sitting on the side clueless.

@gvg+1rDgUiYd Yes, as a people leader I can confirm. We were given a draft of the new ESD mission, values, and goals, and the response was basically that our actions are not matching our words and people will see right through it. People also said lower-level leaders should have been consulted before launching a first draft. DG agreed that we do need to invest more in this area and also agreed to send our a survey to collect feedback on what was shared, which was received earlier today.

make it all make sense. a new chief of staff was hired and started this week. based in NY supporting a group that has only 4 employees in NY and the balance including business partners all in MKE. same area has a VP who is remote. both are apparently going to fly in bi-weekly. how much money is wasted on flights, hotels, etc. this?

but remember, it is super important we are all in the office every week for 'hallway connections'. unless we are some of the chosen ones.

Good to hear purposeful presence is still allowed for DG. He couldn’t make it into the NYC office Tuesday, he had a flight to Milwaukee that evening. Spending one day in Milwaukee then flying home I’m sure too tired to go in on Thursday. Severance dollars is his jet fuel. Comment is you see any of the USAA jet setters this week, all having a fancy dinner.

I’m glad others find him repulsive!

Rumor was a rebranding meeting happened Monday or Tuesday from DG to some ESD leaders and was a clown show. DG said we invest in their employees, which the leaders commented we do? Other takeaway was data data data but he has NO idea how data is built or why it looks the way it does. Green=Good Red=Bad now layoff one of your employees.

One leader said we hired DV again?

He is reminding us of the CareerBuilder chimp ads, jumping around for attention.

Good employees we hope there is a reorg that moves us to a leader who cares and understands the work they lead.

There are good employees and contractors in the organization but leadership DGs brass as the prior poster put it they have no soul. There is a migration to burning out others candles to make your self look better in ESD, toxic.

The quicker individuals pick up on the roadrunner change either you change, have some ethics and stick it out, move internally, or leave by choice / or by severance.

Mr TC from GE is starting to look much much better than DGs org #scarytimes
