Thread regarding Broadcom Corp. layoffs

VMware employee - What should we expect?

A few questions for you all, Broadcomers. I expect to survive the initial cuts.

Should I expect a base-pay cut?
Should I expect my total comp to go up, and what's a good ballpark expectation percentage-wise?
I'm a director; should I expect a demotion down to the manager or something?
Should we expect layoff notices or offers to go out before or after the acquisition?

LOL VMW employee here, working 40+ days a week including Fridays (and right now, Saturdays). Wish I got that 11-3 Mon-Thurs memo...

This impression about VMware being a ghost-town does make for some nice office chatter. But it's not true for all. We are working through the weekends right now as we head into Explore. Seems nothing like the wonderland you think we live in.

To my understanding, General Manager is not a job level, it just designates you are head of the division. In reality, many General Manager's job level is VP, and for few divisions its SVP. In few cases its Senior Director too. It depends on revenue, work force etc.,

The one thing that shocked me with the Broadcom acquisition was how managers were treated. Your high ranking title will be gone. I saw VPs go to senior managers. SVPs go to to Directors. If you were an non-manager, you were safe. About the only manager position that stayed the same was General Manager. Broadcom is also extremely tough on managers. If you are a manager, you will have a target on your back always.

You can expect to be demoted to Manager, which honestly is the actual job that matches in the real world what Directors at VMware do.

You can expect higher compensation, even as a manager, from what you do today. At least 10% more.m, and 5% YoY.

Your can expect layoff notices at VMware to come up before the closing of the acquisition.

Finally, you can expect to work at least 40 hours a week, in business hours, as well as work on Fridays. It’s well known at Broadcom that VMware is like a ghost town before 11am, after 3:30pm, and all day on Fridays, physically and virtually.

It's not mixed. Pay and TC is the confusion it seems. TC goes up if you get into Broadcom as you get new shares added every year. Pay rise happens rarely and it happened only once since 2020.

Does seem to be mixed messaging around pay. Some posts say pay well and you get a good bump, but they expect there pound of flesh for that pay.
Others are saying no pay rises in years.

CA Guy here. I wrote this before… don’t worry. That’s the worst thing that you can do. Either way. It will work out. Broadcom pays out very well if you are RIFd and you will get a bump if you are those that stick around.

The motto is buy and dump. The dump part will come sooner or later. Update your resume. I know because my ex-company was the very first he bought. The process keeps repeating.

Yes, director in CA became Manager in Broadcom, I would expect same with VMWare.

Total Comp will go up for sure, percentage is really tough to say as it really depends on what VMWare paying currently.

Those who gets layoff, will get notices before acquisition. Few will get a transition notice ranging 6-12 months period after which they have to leave.this period, they will get paid of 150% of their current VMware pay.

Your comp won't go down for sure. Probably goes up, maybe a lot. The org will be flatter and you will have more responsibilities.

Broadcom is high pay, also high expectation, but not to the point of unreasonable. Hock is a MIT engineer grad with an MBA and working at 72 years old. So, he is not going to do average pay to get average people. Frankly, at 72, you will only do what you want. XD I know I will.
