It took about 10 weeks to get details and then had to wait 2 pay periods to get the severance pay.

However, I am still trying to get unused vacation pay - going back and forth with HR about it.

I strongly recommend everyone to read the policy otherwise you will lose out pay - whether one day or 10 days of vacation payment, have to get this. Here is the part of policy related to the 'treatment of time off at termination of employment':
For purposes of receiving payment of
vacation/planned time off, you may be eligible for retirement treatment if:

  1. You retire from Citi and initiate the retirement process within the prescribed time
    period(s), or
    1. Your employment is terminated due to a Qualifying Event rendering you eligible for
      benefits under the Separation Pay Plan, and
  2. Your age plus completed years of service with Citi totals at least 60, you have
    attained at least age 50, and have at least five full years’ of service.

I am still waiting for severance details - it has been over two months. This makes me wonder if they are running out of Cash????? They are selling businesses to get more cash but still delaying paying severance. So, who knows what senior management is trying to do - may be make some interest by delaying payment. Either way, not good - other than management showing short term profit to push up stock price.

You are lucky if you got three months of non-working pay. Not everyone gets it. Be prepared to wait long time before you get severance details. Not sure if severance package is generated by Comp team or another team but do validate all numbers - I had bad experience so be careful.

@ak

Being laid off is a termination initiated by the employer for reasons like downsizing, restructuring, or economic downturns, while being fired is a termination due to the employee's performance, behavior, or violation of company policy.

This is the definition from Google AI, so OP is using the correct term. Tbh, many native English speakers would score lower on IELTS or TOEFL if they have to sit them...

@ak why you were “LAYED” off...!

A lot of people at Citi work with teams in non-English-speaking countries. I worked with some Japanese SVPs who spoke limited English, but we still collaborated well. It's a global bank, so stuff like that is pretty normal.

The severance isn’t too bad with the three-month notice. Hope you can use this time to get ready and land an even better job. Good luck — you’ve got this!
