When CA was taken over, we were told it was for access to the our Mainframe customers, and if you paid any attention in any CA town hall ever, you know that is where the money came from. That is why CA was split in two entities within Broadcom, and ESD is nowhere near as important as Mainframe.

Now, I would agree that they probably won't sell off the whole of ESD but I can easily see them sell the non-core customer list and support to HCL. And they have no interest to for example maintain expensive tech support centres around the world, and surely in Emea it would mean layoffs to shift the Support to their Krakow offices (they've done the exact same thing with the Threat BU that they bought from CA more than a decade ago).

@8zkk+13A94U09 You sound like a bitter ex, or an egomaniac. I'm sure you'll fit in well at Facebook or Google, with a few s-xual harassment lawsuits to follow.

Since I don't work in the ESD I will not be shocked either way.

All ESD products are legacy

@8ihk+13A94U09

Broadcom isn’t doing the cuts because they would have to pay the severance

ALL ESD products are outdated money pits. Name one that isn’t? All you have to do is interview with any company using a tech stack from this century. Then you will realize how terrible these ESD products are. Why do you think CA failed?? Because these products were fresh-new-good investments? You are stuck in CA/Broadcom thinking. Just because Broadcom takes a 2+ decade old product, puts it in the cloud , says it does BizOps or AiOps (some bs term for google search marketing) that is still a dated money pit ... I feel bad for you. But truly it’s too late for you—I see dead careers.

Yeah, there is a couple of things that don't make sense with this argument. First off, Hock would be looking for a lot of money in the sale, otherwise the CA purchase will look really bad. Second, if HCL's plan is to just cut teams to the bone, why wouldn't Hock just follow the same plan? Third, not ALL products are outdated money pits. Anyone who thinks that has not been with the company for a while. Some ESD products are doing well. Some have moved to the Symantec unit. It wouldn't surprise me if Hock dumps some products, but the whole BU would be a shock.

It's highly unlikely that they will sell off the entire ESD, given the level of the current investment.

Most probably you will see legacy products being sold off.

Really? No sense? Do you know how much profit RSD brings to Broadcom? How much is the ESD line worth? Remember hock is paying 4%+ debt on billions

Once you take out mainframe which has very high margins and accounting for the billions of debt service on the ESD share it’s insignificant in fact in a quarter last year whisper in finance department it was negative. That is why they didn’t break down the numbers and did a lay-off 6 months in to ESD. This is compounded by the fact this profit is declining every year. Broadcom is selling products well past their prime, maintained by substandard engineers that didn’t build them. Now is time to sell ESD or the franchise becomes more of a liability than asset. When HCL is letting you go will you at least come back here and admit you were wrong? It’s honestly naive people like you that will be shocked when this deal goes down

I don't believe Broadcom will sell ESD, it makes no sense whatsoever.

Is HCL interested in taking over the entire ESD or just certain products, as they did for IBM?

My manager left last week. We went out for drinks on his last day. Someone asked him if his departure has anything to do with the hcl rumors. His response “what rumors?” Person asked again. Manager again repeated “what rumors?” With a smirk on his face. Then went into a public service about managing your own career, etc. needless to say he knows, but is not directly speaking about it.

Managers would see the axe this time as HCL does not want them. Just keep watching and you will see where its heading

When do you think the HCL move will go down, in terms of timeframe (+/- ) 3 to 6 months ?

I’m hearing HCL wants Broadcom to let go half. Yes half. HCL wants to not have to pay severance and wants a profit. Apparently HCL is barely making a profit from the last Broadcom transaction. Broadcom offered those that got a 3. But HCL said no. Because roles like QA, UX, AA, they no longer have need for going forward. All operations in California will be closed. Apparently AS walked out when they asked him if this was viable. He turned in his resignation next day. How do I know? Broadcom HR leaks like a screen door on a submarine

Yes, some people in Non-Core support groups got put in a new transition until Sept 18. I do not have total numbers but only small percentage. Some of these people were in the first transition last year but were hired back. The people that I have heard about so far got a "3" assigned when they got their bonus last year. This was the underperform level.
