@9gc was tariffs cause of this layoff? I think even without tariffs, Alcon loves laying off

@9fh restructuring claimed savings will come from "operational improvements" and "SG&A efficiencies". Do wouldn’t downsizing unnecessary contractors the next move?

@9er Not the same way. Contractors are operational expenses, which take longer to realize. Reducing headcount especially higher cost employees via ISP and VSP are deeper, immediate, and have a longer term impact on bottom line, by reducing payroll, related taxes, and benefits.

@8ke There are still some rumors that there is going to be another round of LO before the end of the year. Not sure how far this is true.

Alcon can lay off their contractors instead of full time employee.

@9av law says pregnant workers should be treated the same as non-pregnant employees with similar abilities. So can be laid off like a non-pregnant employee.

Burden of proof of discrimination is upon her.

@9ak if she was laid without performance issues then the timing it of all is very unethical, unless they paid her for the entire maternity leave benefit.

@8my yes some associates who were either pregnant or going on maternity leave soon were also laid off.

I get the feeling they are trying to eliminate Alcon R&D all together long term and replace with acquisitions/acquired R&D teams. This would enable innovation that Alcon seems to lack. Pure speculation of course.

@8n1 CA sites got hit as well, cr-ppy day, I wonder how many other sites experienced ISP last week. This is only the beginning, I suspect another wave in June if stocks don't pick up.

Just got a msg from my supervisor that CEO and the local leadership will send some email to us (no details or context was provided). They said they will check in with the team tomorrow.

I’m a non-USA associate.

@i can say all the situations listed .For example they have let go couple of associates due to performance.I believe this is counted in the 2% head count reduction.

Does anyone know if people getting ISP will mostly one, or for any of these situations: elimination of position (i.e RIF), "repurpose" of headcount (title, band, job description change), or performance?

I started in Alcon in 2006 toward the tail end of the boomers. I witnessed how good they had it when it was owned by Nestle, I only got a small taste of the good life then blaaam the rug was pulled and the boomers pulled up the ladder behind them. Now they are still fu--ing us, the most selfish generation ever.

“Alcon paid CEO David Endicott $13.2 million in 2024, including a $1.3 million salary, $2.2 million for short-term incentives, $8.1 million long-term (2024-2026) incentives and $184,504 worth of pension and insurance contributions.

Endicott also received nearly $1.4 million for other compensation including a transportation expenses and/or global mobility benefits.”

While an average Alcon employee stresses over not losing their job. What changes have been made by leadership to hold themselves accountable ? Will any senior leader be held accountable for the global outage ?
