Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

How many ex-ge hacks does it take to lay people off as they collect VP and Sr. D money?

seriously.look at the total waste of money that is tc's org.we hire a washed-up nobody from ge - a company that has been in a death spiral for years-and is doing the same at nm now.add up all the salaries of his org and be preapred to be amazed.then there is the work they hired consultants-mckinsy to do for them.millions upon millions, all to deliver a budgeting and planning capability that is totally screwed up and ineffectual.after spending those millions they decided that nm needs to layoff people actually doing work-while they spend millions and fiddle as rome burns.

keep it simple.need to save money,js?fire tc's team, get rid of the consultants, take that savings, and keep the people who are actually delivering for the company.

Was it the ex-GE folks that came up with the idea of putting a lemon on your head and posting it to the NM social media page? Seriously NM, you want us to put a lemon on top of our heads and take a picture? WTF has happened to this once great company?

GE is the future of NM. Same people sunk the ship.

CM hangs upside down outside JES's window anxiously waiting for the moment to fly in and sit in the CEO seat.

i've heard it's going to be TG, not CM.

@7yol+1oISVFyj When a question about the CEO search was asked during The Weekend, CM said he has a "deep interest" in the process. His tone indicated he's hoping to get the CEO job.

CM will likely take over since he is the furthest up Baseball Johnny's rear end. With him as CEO it will be more of the same or worse. CM was the LearnVest mastermind so let's not forget that as much as he would like us to forget it.

Leadership team at NM could give a flying leap what a cadre of whining, sniveling, underperforming employees think. They are highly paid and successful, and have full backing and support of the Board. Meanwhile the bellyachers have no where to go for similar level job and pay should the hatchet drop on them. And rest assured it will at some point. NM is moving toward being an unapologetic meritocracy.

I'm not sure things will drastically improve once JES is out. Who's in next, CM or AG or...? Trading one tu-d for another. NM has drastically changed at its core, starting around 2015-17, unlikely things will turn around.

I agree that we need to go to a meritocracy, but that needs to start from the top. That involves JES retiring and several members of SLT and ELT being replaced in the process.

It’s kind of cute to see NYC and MKE people battle, but coming from the outside, I can tell you that the difference between campuses isn’t really that stark and no one is really top of the industry talent.

To summarize, none of you guys are really that special, so stop fighting. We’re all here because this place isn’t a death march, not because we’re brilliant and the top of our industry. That’s okay.

The teams in Milwaukee are patiently waiting on JES's disastrous career to finally come to an end next year. When he leaves we are confident that NYC will follow and the tracksuit guy in NYC will finally be sent packing. The company will restore its midwestern values, morals, and work ethics. We can slowly begin to forget JES and unwrite him from our history books as we return to the classy and respected company we once were.

The jealously for New York that rages among some in Milwaukee is comical. Can’t stand the fact that NY salaries are demonstrably higher than what they are in a Midwestern rust belt industrial city whose heyday was the 1940s and 50s. Get over yourselves. The good news is that executive leadership is decisively moving the company to a meritocracy. To include in Milwaukee, where the best and brightest are being hired. And were those existing NM’s with intelligence, ambition and work ethic can finally see path to exponential career enrichment and growth. The tired bellyachers that exist in Milwaukee have no future. They are being called out for their lack of contribution. And most hide within the bureaucracy that still hangs in at NM. Knowing full well that the hatchet is invariably going to come their way. The long overdue hatchet. And unless these bellyachers are at the point where they can transition to retirement, then they are completely screwed. Because no company is going to hire the tired deadweight of NM in comparable jobs and pay grades.

what we need is a another innovation team to be based in nyc since that is where all of the innovation happens.just sit back and be in awe of what they have accomplished.

ever since they kicked m the joker out they have been working on staffing that up.it looks like it will be amazing as it has 15 senior directors on it.surely they are going to come up with something outrageously cool.just like throwing 100 monkeys in a room with a typewriter that team will randomly come up with something mind blowing.

innovation happens in nyc.business happens in mke.guess which one pays the bills

NM was a Fortune 100 company prior to LearnVest and the NYC babies joining. Your commute is too long so you can only be there 2 days per week? Covid only hit NYC so you can only be there 2 days per week. Your precious Learnvest collapsed like the house of cards that it was? DEI and SARE have been nothing but a money pit on the company from day 1. JES tried the same garbage at Kohls and look how that company failed. NM will bounce back once we rid it of JES and all the NYC babies.

Tired Milwaukee lifers are just mad because people with actual talent and work ethic have come into NM and are flying up the org charts. It's called a meritocracy. Not to be confused with thinking you are of actual value when in fact you spend the majority of your working hours attending meetings that you have no substantive role in. How many meetings happen at NM that include 10 plus attendees, but where 3 or 4 people are the true principals. Just showing up and sitting there...adding nothing...delivering nothing...walking out with zero "to dos"....is horrific waste of corporate resources. Or thinking you are of special value because you stuff your face with free lunch and sit next to your fellow bellyachers. Or claiming that downtown Milwaukee is no longer safe for white people and therefore you should be permitted to "work" from home...translation, put in a solid 2 hours per day of work from home versus your customary 2 hours and 15 minutes per day when in the Milwaukee office. You dinosaurs either better hope you are close to retirement and saved up, or get off your lazy duffs and get busy. Because your next on the chopping block.

FredJamb showed the disconnect between senior leaders and the rest of us with his comment during the weekend that promotions and pay raises should be based on business need instead of performance. Applying that very logic he just put himself out of a job. That guy has done nothing for the business and has never added a dime of value to Tech. How much longer before we can him and the rest of his NYC cronies?

There are so many people from theses( tcs, infosys….) organizations who peeped into NM and bossing out as senior director. I wonder in what capability these people are hired into ( apart from giggling and cracking some nasty jokes at the town halls). These people are afraid of the real talent and I personally heard a story from a friend who was interviewed by one of these “
jack of all trades and master of nothing” group and he did not get in. And a year later that person got hired back in a different team for a better position. One more strategy these people apply is they hire people who are timid and donot question back. They are indirectly suppressing the ambitious and passionate folks. They are doing this to just just secure there positions.Point to be noted is the organization talent is being brutally mu---red by this unworthy people who don’t respect the culture and diversity of NM. Many times I don’t even see these exchanging a formal smile as well. They peep into their phones intentionally. Grow up dudes…. Your designation is of utter no use when you don’t have the basic human etiquette’s.
