Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

anyone see evidence they are collecting our badge scans?

everyone believes they are collecting our scans in out of buildings but for some reason the company is still claiming they aren't. based on feedback you've received from your manager, during your 1-on-1's or whatever, can you tell they gathered your scan data?

More wage suppression.

Along with laying off older employees and replacing them with NCHs.

GM will be using them in some sort of demented way to start cutting 10% of people again when they come back from shutdown.

It’s sad, but will likely happen, if not fully after shutdown but most likely spread until the end of the year.

Remember, you are not being laid off, but, let go for a “performance” issue.

If your badge scans check out, you will most likely get sandbagged for some made up minor thing that has never existed in your work behavior( “fairy tale” behavior).

Before I got laid off, I knew for a fact that our worthless director was checking badge scans. The guy was in charge of Level 8 employees and he was worrying about this petty BS.

There's a disconnect between the threat of dismissal due to RTO non-compliance and the invisible collection of data, metrics and a hidden checklist.

Who here thinks people will be made to make that connection before shutdown?

They'll advertise a job for low wages and when no one applies, they'll say that no Americans are available and bring in an h1b.

Way back about 15 yrs ago, my then director had me work with Security to get swipe data on an employee. It took some time and the csv file was a mess. Each scan is recorded. Go out to lunch? Scan a supplier in? Have a smoke? Etc. I can't speak about any streamlining to this process, but he just used the data for a 'discussion'

referring to a few posts ago, yes, everything can and is collected digitally but what makes the last few months different is they appear to be using it as a we-pon to cull the herd and f you out of your severance. employees that have been let go recently keep saying they were offered 2 months whereas i'm sure many were entitled to more based on the guidelines in the company handbook.

Wake up and smell the 2008.
I just saw a job posting on Indeed. Design Supervisor, leading an electrical group. They prefer a master degree in engineering.
$15-20/hour. The idea that these companies can hire top talent with high achievements and education and pay them McDonalds team lead wages is back.

It's 2008 all over again, and know this: When the mass layoffs start, hundreds will be competing for the $15-20/hour job via a contract company with no benefits.
From "we'll quit over RTO" to masters in engineering supervisor role for $15/hour in a hot minute. And if you think that's fun, check out what is happening to commercial real estate, banks and restaurants. It's coming folks. Get ready.

Is this 2008? It feels like 2008.
Most are unaware, some in denial and the folks in the margins are bracing for impact.
There are a lot of unsold cars in parking lots around metro Detroit.

Everything you do that has a digital handshake is logged. Has been for years. What they decide to do with it is situational. They own all of the data, they can do whatever they want with it, including studying people, their productivity, their texts and mail traffic, even photographs if you're apps allow it... I assume they are learning that some folks are stars no matter where they office, not so with others. Meh, it's been a part of the world of work for many years now. Your apps on your phone study you too!

That’s good to know too. Wonder how they do that? Based off the internet connection / VPN your computer links to maybe

IT also has tracking software on your company computer and can track if you’re working in metro Detroit or up north, in Florida, etc.

they can use that info to dismiss you for cause or a reduced severance
do you think a company that insources and outsources at will to grab
as much money as possible now is ethical

@1cov+1sJSOmOH is right.

GM has been collecting this data for some time. They are now at a point where they can mine this data for their so called non-compliance RTO metrics for reviews. I work in the data area and know of it’s existence.

They definitely are collecting your badge data and using it. To assume otherwise would be naive. Long before the mandatory return to office the Chief Engineer of a program I work on warned us to keep records of our work locations and to swipe badges in case we were called out for our attendance record.

You are being watched, trust me.

Dear Cave Person,

They aren't collecting badge and VPN analytics. Don't be paranoid.
Please continue to work from home T-TH.

Assume that when you scan your badge, that badge swipe has been collected.
