Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

They cannot prevent a decline in reputation

The company's reputation is very bad. Do they think that by doing everything not to trigger news and or WARN act, they will avoid an even bigger drop in reputation?
I believe that the reputation is one of the many reasons why they are trying in all possible ways to get rid of people by forcing them to leave on their own. Wrong. Absolutely wrong because it can in no way slow down the decline of Dell’s reputation.

I’m responding again - the part about layoffs being a regular thing. It’s not made up, it’s accurate. The rule of thumb in the area I previously worked in was that 2 people chosen each quarter - however it wasn’t set in stone because due to consistent re-orgs obviously there are a lot of shifts so that number isn’t consistent, just as the teams and managers of teams are not consistent. But the constant layoffs are absolutely true. I was told about this before I worked there and I witnessed it first hand when I did work there. In some ways Dell is a great company but the facts are the facts. That aspect of the company is not great and IMO a lazy approach to leadership and managing people (leading by fear and constant reorganization).

@7dfh+1bQsXHP7 -- You are correct, that's at least mostly made up. I've been a manager in various parts of the company for years. At specific layoff times, yes you have to make a decision about who will be let go, but there certainly is no standing list of 2, and it doesn't happen every quarter for damn sure. How big a team do you have to have to lay 2 people off every quarter? And, NDAs --- no. @8frr+1bQsXHP7 sounds just like a run-of-the-mill internet troll -- or maybe somebody pi---d off that they lost their position deservedly or not.

Even if your manager is aware, they've signed NDAS and wouldn't admit to it. This sounds like an HR troll response anyway.

my manager is not aware of this 2 person list. Sounds made up to me.

Lol. Dell makes you write a fabulous review when you first start working. Thanks for the reminder to update mine! Also - WARN is about layoffs (to the poster who does not understand what WARN is). In short, Dell avoids WARN by paying severance and laying off smaller amounts of people each quarter. And BTW, to those who are still not getting it, it is in Dell’s plan and part of basic operations to lay people off each quarter. Managers are instructed to lay off 2 people - and sometimes get around that by moving folks to different teams. That’s why there’s so much movement. You know - kind of like ex lax. ;-)

Dell will spin off EMC like HP did. Dell will all other acquired companies. Dell hiring are conditional. Prepare to get fired before you accept offer. A** lckng helps though. Enquire with friends. If you good at lickng a** then find the correct team and join. If you have 10+ years forget unless you can be a slave.

DELL is highly reputed company. Look at glassdoor.com - what do you see? 4.2 score - better than many other respectable US companies. Better than IBM, better than HP, better than Oracle, better than Amazon. DELL Rules Big!! Go Big or Go Home!
