Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Major key to leaving…Ignore the naysayers. (Taken from another post. )

Another major key is to 100% ignore the naysayers. Naysayers often wish they too had the courage to leave but they don’t. So they try to sell that you are stuck and you’ll never find a job ever. “Citi is the best as its ever going to get for you so you might as well not even try.” I’ve read some pretty lame naysayer postings.

“if you get a job making more money than at Citi, they’ll probably scale back on your pay later so you might as well not even try”.
“they too might lay off later so you might as well not even try”
“benefits are better you say, well they’ll probably scale back on benefits later, so you might as well not even try”.
“they might allow work from home but I bet they change their mind later, so you’re better off staying at Citi”.

Ignore these guys. Sharpen your skills, keep improving and wait to move to another company that’ll pay you what you’re worth and appreciate you like you deserve.

As a 2, if not adequately rewarded by Citi, then I will reward myself with another job somewhere else. Current irons in the fire over the past two months in OTHER sectors, this is key, is paying off.

It amazes me how peeps at Citi refuse to look for other jobs outside of banking. They look at the peer banks only and go no further. I truly don’t understand it as they are just letting other prime positions just float on by.

Hey I can do that and the salary is good….oh wait…its not in banking…nevermind, it has to be in banking or nothing at all. WTH?!?!

I cannot promise or guarantee you a job outside of Citi. Nope, I can’t do that.
I can guarantee you though 100% that you won’t find one if you never look.

An athlete won’t judge you for working out.
A millionaire won’t judge you for starting a business.
A singer won’t judge you for trying to sing a song.
It’s the people going nowhere that always have something to say.

This mirrors a lot of people on this board. Just ignore the naysayers.

It could be or it really could be much more simple than that.
It could actually be someone giving genuine advice. I myself had two managers just like that. They were micro managing @ssh0les who often used those very phrases the OP referenced. IMHO as an attempt brow beat their people to “step in line” and to discourage them from leaving.

I feel like these types of posts are inverse psychology posts in order to have people remove themselves first and avoid being next on the list by having enough people gone.

Get off the train as soon as possible. On march ive got two options, being reduced to IC or take 1 year worth package and „get off the train” I’ve picked 2nd option and it took me 2 months to get a job and WHAT A RELIEF! I’m learning on the job, im getting new skills and I’m not in „stall” mode as it happened to me and brought past year in citi. Don’t be afraid! There is a life after citi!

Completely agree, especially this part - 'Ignore these guys. Sharpen your skills, keep improving and wait to move to another company that’ll pay you what you’re worth and appreciate you like you deserve.'

How can we sharp our skills and keep improving? Can anyone suggest some practical action? Thank you.

So what one expects say yes for all nonsense they will do. People don’t have basic knowledge and they want to lead people.
