Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

The sky is falling

OMG, you people crack me up. Living each day wondering if today is RIF day, get a life.
I have been with WIN 11yrs. I remember when I first started, I would see the old timers, the dead weight, the lifers as they called themselves sitting at the same table in the lunch room playing cards. They worked here 20yrs, parked in the same parking spots, took lunch at the same time each day, at the same table, with the same people, playing the same card game. Talking about how good things were back when we were Alltel, or GTE, taking their extra 30 min to finish their 'last hand'. Then back to their cubes where they sat for the past 20 or more years doing basically nothing. Good news is they are gone, dead or layed off, retired, whatever. We are the new work force for WIN, young, independent thinkers, we understand that no job is forever. If you still have a job here you are safe.

@9kyy+1hMy9fhq - your assumption is people get promoted based on skill set or education - I suspect you must not work at Windstream if you believe this how people get moved up at Windstream. There are literally party planners that have leadership roles - why? - nobody seems to know

if you have 30 years in and are still hourly you have no one to blame but yourself for career stagnation. TT didn't keep you in a cr---y job, your lack of skills did.

I have 30+ years and hate it with a passion. The hourly rate and vacation time are decent once you get some years under your belt. The other benefits are below par and health insurance is horrendous. The layoffs are a thing of the past. Now paying nice incentive bonuses to lure your friends or family to come to work at Windstream. That’s always a sign of weakness when the can’t find candidates from their reputation and rely on employees to get new employees. The kids they’ve been hiring are terrible. The work ethic isn’t there and they have that entitled mentality. #goldenhandshakeplease

" young, independent thinkers"

Not a good thinker if you chose to work at WE. Clueless is more like it.

Lol Young independent Craigslist employees. Yes WS is posting adds on Craigslist for jobs. I’m just sad backpage imploded that would of been better hiring spot. Recession, customer churn, and daily network impairments. AX or off shoring deeper in horizon.

I quit whining - but I also quit trying - HR and TT is this what you wanted?
Paying $2000 sign on bonus for warm bodies that did not even pass High School while neglecting long term employees has a cost. Now where are my playing cards?

Sounds like a bunch of H R people posting.
I worked for WS. I have been in the business over 30yrs. Upper management and regional management By far the worst I've worked for. They cared about one thing, numbers. Employees don't matter to them.

'We are the new work force for WIN, young, independent thinkers' - LMAO are these the new Windstream hires that cannot pass High School or obtain a GED? There is no way anyone can compete with this quality of job candidate going forward!

So I will take the advice and get some playing cards until I get my walking papers since that seems to be the options. I lied, I am not scared one bit about a layoff considering whom I am competing against in this job market!

I'm luv'in this ! I wasn't here during the engineers and project manager days but it seems to me that these very people may be why WIN is now in the position they are in.

The original post hit the nail on the head.
These old timers who sat at the lunch table called themselves ' engineers' LOL.
One would sit in his cube all week drawing pictures of telephone poles, another would go out on the road once a week to 'inspect telephone pole' then spend the next 4 days marking an excel spreadsheet telling if the poles were still there :) Engineers my bu-t. But yes, they are history. Another big scam were the project managers. What a joke. They couldn't tell you what project they managed, or if there even was a project. Again, history.
So why you losers hanging around? You complain that you haven't had a raise in years yet you stay. We suggest if you are unhappy to find another job. You answer ' finding another job isn't that easy '. So you have solved your own problem my friends. If you can't find another job then you need to be grateful for what you have here at WIN and stop complaining. And for you people saying your just staying till TT gives you a 'package', well guess what friends, WIN is under no obligation to give you anything. TT doesn't have to give you the sweat off his ba--s. Your entitled to whatever your particular state offer for unemployment benefits, nothing more, so keep on waiting ;)
Bottom line is either leave or shut your mouths, or pull up a chair to the card table.

It is good you like to work harder for less pay and benefits, alot of the bad atmosphere is because people had better benefits that has all dwindled since Alltel merger. If you like working for peanuts, you are at the right circus.

I agree, WIN 'owes' you nothing. If you don't like it here then leave. Can't find another job? Then you are getting what you deserve. Go find an empty lunch table and play card you losers.
