How will UP replace all those dispatchers

We seem to care more about this company than those who should be thinking about its future. I get really worried every time I hear that another dispatcher has left. Where the he-l will UP find so many new hires willing to come here to fill these positions?

Bullying by senior management is backfiring. People with more than 5 years experience are leaving every day. UP does not care. They are all about the bottom line in addition to fake awards relating to military programs, diversity, etc.

Employer bullying will backfire! I’ll bet this won’t be tolerated much longer. Engineers at my work location get harassed for not fully utilizing energy management, not wanting to hear excuses as of why you were unable to utilize it 100% they give you a Maps 1. What a JOKE they are just trying to stir the hornets nest with all craft employees. If it keeps up I suspect replacements are going to be real hard to find. Also to the guys getting their kids hired on what is wrong with you? Do you secretly dislike your child, knowing what the future of this place is going to be like y’all must be bad people. I wouldn’t tell my kids to work here if it paid 300k a year with the amount of B.S we tolerate.

Wanna know how good the hiring is going at UP. Not going to mention the location but they hired 12 new hires in this area, told them they would have to go 5 hours away for the training, they would have to pay for their own hotel, they would not get paid anything but per diem during training for food. All 12 quit. Now why...why would we recruit fro UP knowing this is the type of cr-p they do to employees.

UP I think don't realize what word of mouth marketing does for a company. They have destroyed any moral that anyone has had so much to the point current employees are not saying anything positive about the company. 1-furlough, 2-attendance policy, 3- you must be married to the company even as they don't pay claims, drop turns to get to you on your off days...ect.

Why would anyone work here? I'm about to finish school and after 17 years will be looking for something else. I don't feel there is a future here anymore. Just my 2 cents.

@6nch Maybe jus maybe you should realize that the UP is still having a worker shortage issue with the incentives and some hiring bonuses already in place. If the "companies" would've stopped catering to the shareholders and pi----g off employees, then the incentives and bonuses wouldn't be needed.

AUTOMATION! If your job can be eliminated by technology, you can bet your A$$ UP will do it. OR contract out the job. No one is safe. Not sure why anyone would be a new hire conductor lol. I've never felt I was safe, and I've been playing this game since 2008. Unless your an old timer, don't get co--y or comfy!

@itjd, you are misinformed. Many companies are now offering incentives to their employees including more time off, extra vacation, pay raises and bonuses. All companies are having trouble retaining and attracting new employee. If you don’t believe me, just do a little research on the subject. Maybe jus maybe if UP continues to have trouble recruiting they will have to follow other companies lead and start treating their workers better.

The executives at UP are in favor of hiring felons because they all will soon be one

Dont worry everyone right now there is a bill in unicameral in nebraska to give tax incentives to hire convicted felons. Lance has already expressed desire to hire them. So now they just have to set up a recruiting table at the prison exit.
Willingness to break the law. Check
Ability to disregard safety. Check.
Welcome to UP

I was furloughed in 2019 when UP closed down the maintenance shop I worked out of and decided to go back to college to get my engineering degree. This is my last year of school and I began looking for new opportunities through the school's career services department. Lo and behold, Union Pacific contacted me and expressed an interest in interviewing me for a dispatcher position!

This was my 2nd furlough with UP and I definitely remember UP furloughing dispatchers back in 2019/2020. Nope, I'm going to start my post career right and not even going to consider working for UP. There is much better employment opportunities out there.

Nobody and I mean nobody will come to UP as a new hire in 2022 except for the truly desperate. UP has been uninvited from most major college job fairs due to their treatment of workers.

@1bip OK how are the current incentives working out so far? Oh that's right, people aren't even applying. What about making the starting pay higher? Do you think the company is actually going to pay you more than they have too? Nope, that's not going to happen either. The company could allow for more time off as this would help with the burnout? When's the last time the UP or any company for that matter allowed people to take extra time off to unwind? That answer is never. The company pays you to be there, not elsewhere. I do however agree with you when you said we should look to other things that will help us, and that's why folks are leaving the UP.

They won’t replace the dispatchers, they just make everyone else pick up the additional work. Come on, you sound like you haven’t experienced a round of layoffs at UP.

I agree there should be more incentives for these jobs. The starting pay should be higher and the company could allow more time off as this would help with burnout. The company in not going to abandon PSR, so we should look to other things that will help us.

Yeah good luck with incentives. You said it yourself that people are burning out. How much of an incentive must be present to keep dispatchers there? That's a question that I don't think anyone could answer. The problem I have with the incentive idea is the possible strings that are most likely attached to the incentive. The UP is a sh1thole, and many people know it. People are realizing that the so-called incentives aren't enough anymore. What the UP should do is drop the penny pinching PSR BS, focus on the employees that are left, and LEAVE THEM THE F_ _ K alone!! It's getting worse, and upper management knows it. Incentives and bonuses aren't going to cut it anymore.

There has been a shortage of dispatchers for several years. The jobs are difficult and lead to burnout for many. The railroads should incentivize these positions in order to get more qualified candidates. As far as your saying we care more about this company than the ones running it, I disagree with this. I don’t think the execs and board care one bit about the company; it all about profits for them. As far as the employees are concerned, I don’t think many of us care about the company anymore. My concern about the dispatchers is more about my safety and the safety of my coworkers and not any concern for the company.
