The government aims to target the funds to create at least two manufacturing clusters for leading-edge chips by 2030. Top candidates for receiving funds for advanced chip-making plants to anchor such hubs are Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., Intel Corp. and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co., the three companies that currently mass-produce such chips. They have already unveiled plans to build facilities in states including Arizona, Texas and Ohio.

Hey Folks,
Out of curiosity I looked through the pictures and this particular Dresden based vp also attended the Middle East ISES summit in Oman in Feb 2023 last month. Pictures online. Was he attending under the Globalfoundries banner? I thought he was removed? If he wasn’t holy wow they covered up some definite shady sh-t. Or maybe he is there on his own dime looking for new employment? If so he definitely set his bar high. I can only imagine the emails the new company will receive regarding their hiring practices.
He was not fired
Are we sure the vp from dresden is really gone from Globalfoundries ? There are pictures of him plastered all over LinkedIn having attended this year’s International Semiconductor Executive Summit 2023 (ISES) despite his highly inappropriate behavior and deviant conduct.
TC and GF gain from the US Chips Bill by loosing all our China customers....
@2mre I've been with GF for 10+ years and am starting to feel the same. My team was not affected by recent layoffs, but that's probably because we're already short at least 4 engineers. Even leading up to the recent layoff there was no evidence from my manager or HR that they were seriously trying to recruit anyone
@6lfl+1lpFvebp
Lighten up, Francis.
Let the people who actually work at Global worry about it. The armchair quarterbacks who were fired or quit posting on these threads are meaningless. Your opinions mean jack. Whine somewhere else failures.
Yes there are others too yet to be exposed. Globalfoundries created the perfect work environment for sleaze-ba--s to advance and thrive in.
What happened to all the posts here? I thought the one about TC having lost the crowd when they start joking about his bu-t cheeks was funny and insightful.
Fab 8.2 was always just a hail marry for GF to try and get any US Chips bill funding. According to our CEO, GF will not build any new capability/capacity without it being funded by someone other than GF. The problem is GF doesn't have a strong enough technology portfolio to keep an 8.2 fab filled with demand since we are not investing in new capabilities/technologies.
Did GF really cancel Fab 8.2?
Wow! That really changes my perspective on things. Globalfoundries really is a company that has sc-mbags and predators in exploitative positions of power. Jesus. I had no idea there were more. GF is a company where criminals and deviant people can go. This is shocking and and embarrassing. I need out of this cesspool now
- GF sells 1 of only 3 US fabs.
- GF lays off 400+ or 10% US workforce
- GF Cancels Fab 8.2
- GF invests and expands heavily in Bangalore and Singapore
- GF shuttering Santa Clara Operations
GF as a whole, is on the upswing internationally . Sadly, the US operations are not being included in the growth. For US semi workers, you are better off investing your time and career with companies that are investing in new technology and Fabs here.
2 more weeks and I cut ties financially with GF. 15 years invested with GF. To the younger and new people, don’t waste your career/future with this company.
@2vzw
The current BU team knows very little about RF. At the top you have an automotive/industrial guy running the show who is very competent in that space and things are growing but not fast enough. However, once you move down under him the folks calling the portfolio shots are incompetent. IBM gave GF the RF business, handed it to them on a silver platter, it took GF about 7.5 years now to run it into the ground. When the RF business is 40-50% of your revenue and you are getting your lunch eaten by the competition the future isn't looking too good. GF better hope the automotive business revenue can expand as fast as the RF business revenue will fall or else GF's overall revenue YoY will start to decline very quickly. I'm hoping GF can be successful, but I have serious doubts.
GF business in RF was limited to Qualcomm in cellular and Bosch in automotive. Both wins were achieved under a different team of senior business leadership no longer with GF. Both Qualcomm and Bosch now dumping GF thanks to the incompetence of current business leadership
@2dws yes there were two VP levels who had similar issues.
Woah! Wait there was another one? Or same one? A vp was let go last spring for same behavior but I don’t think he had anything to do with RF!
Hopefully government of US will do some pity and give a small pie to Tom. This may help us survive few months longer.
I think the only angle GF had to go after any US Chips Bill funding was radar applications for the military, it seems the whole RF business is falling apart after its past leader was removed for inappropriate behavior with one of his subordinates. Seems we have lost our focus in the RF area and UMC and TSMC is starting to eat our lunch. GF better hope they sign more General Motors deals quickly or else fab loading in 300mm will be nearly empty like it is in 200mm now!! Jump ship now before it sinks!!
All jokes aside TC should have known it was a gigantic waste of time and effort due to our connections with foreign governments, etc.
If anything it looks foolish and very bad. A true real leader/CEO would know this or understand this and not waste resources on it. It make us and him look incompetent
GF is caught between devil and the deep sea. It is stranded in man island since it’s pivot. It has no cutting edge roadmap nor niche market like nxp or tower semi. My guts says that it is preparing for selling itself since 7 nm pivot. Probably market conditions are to blame for delay in its sell. Worry is that it will not secure even 1/5th of what ot was offered last year in 2021.
This fills my heart with joy.
TC wh--ed himself out for nothing. That sk--k!
Yes we lost the deal with US government/military we were bragging about last year due our foreign connections and ownership.
I am not surprised with GF left out as it is still controlled by outside US entity and has no cutting edge or R & D plans. GF already ki-led all cutting edge and R& D. company will get funded only if it has a strong national security angle, is impossible to achieve without government assistance, and would be a good deal for taxpayers.
GF does not have security angle as most of money is funneled to Abu Dhabi.
