Thread regarding Ford layoffs

The Hub. Inside layout?

Anyone been inside the Hub? Just curious what the general work spaces look like? Cubes or 1 long desk with several stations (like a call center)? Thx

Dear Team,

We know your time is valuable, and nothing should get in the way of delivering your best for the company — not even mental health. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce the grand opening of our On-Demand Resilience Center™, conveniently located next to the breakroom microwaves.

Simply complete a quick, company-approved tele-visit with our contracted clinician (average wait time: 43 seconds) and swipe your Wellness Card at the dispensing unit. Choose from a full suite of Productivity Enhancement Solutions, including:

Zoloft – For those “big picture” Mondays
Paxil – Smooths out compliance audits
Prozac – Because deadlines aren’t moving, but you can
V-lium – Great for quarterly reviews
Xanax – A must-have before team-building exercises
Adderall – For when “fast-paced environment” becomes your personality
Ambien – The perfect ending to your Adderall-fueled day
Wellbutrin – Mood support with a side of “let’s crush Q3”
Beta Blockers – Keeps your heart from filing its own HR complaint

Usage is capped at “reasonable business needs” per our legal team. Don’t forget: unused credits expire at year-end!

We care deeply about your wellbeing — because happy, stable employees meet deadlines.

All workstations are treadmill desks which will aid in powering the BEV chargers used by the execs.

@js They would be entitled to “managerial volume”, a booming, god-like voice.🤣

Management would probably be much happier about people working remotely if there would be some way for MS Teams to display their importance and power.

Maybe have some regal false background for managers only. Maybe make their audio twice as loud as GSRs. They kind of thing.

By the e way, privacy in the workplace is a status symbol, part of the pecking order. The more privacy you have, the higher your rank.

I think that is one of the driving factors for RTO. When you work remotely, everyone is just a disembodied voice and an image on a screen. It puts us all at the same level as the boss and they can’t flex their status symbols. That vexes them mightily.

All closed in offices, like the 1950s

Like the 1950’s?

When I started at Ford there were still some office areas that looked like they hadn’t been updated since the 1950. They were just one big room, desk after desk after desk, no partitions.

Cubicles are an 80s/90s thing and a major improvement in work life for office workers.

You want to know what an office was like at a big company back in the 1950s and 60s? Look at some still shots from the movie The Apartment with Jack Lemmon. There were places at Ford that looked like this.

Understand: The “open office” is a regression to much older ways.

All closed in offices, like the 1950s, people smoking and everyone has a secretary.

AEC and PFSL have the same layout. I retired before I had to move back upstairs to the new layout at AEC. It is supposed to promote a better environment for sharing ideas and communication but from what I witnessed at PFSL on several occasion, everyone kept to themselves and did their jobs. It was quiet unlike the 2nd floor where I worked at AEC before the open plan change.

Maybe it is a generational thing! :)

No cubicles, no partitions. Open seating like Rotunda Training center.
